A Message from the Principal
Dear Families,
It was fun today to see students wearing their best picture day outfits today! The fresh fits only last so long, so we are happy to report that all pictures were taken before lunch and, most importantly, before the midday recess. Thank you to our volunteers for making this smooth. I’d also like to thank our popcorn volunteers for successfully launching our first Popcorn Friday!
These are two of many great ways to volunteer and be a part of the fun. If you are interested in getting more involved, we’d love to hear from you. Brandice Sanchez, our PAC president, at brandicesanchez@gmail.com, is a great point person for your questions. More PAC volunteer opportunities are also listed later in this newsletter.
In other news, you may have noticed an email with the subject line “Parent/Guardian Notice of Items Out.” This automated email, now sent each Thursday, informs you of the books your child is selecting from our school library’s collection. It is meant to be informational-only and not to notify you of overdue books.
Finally, we look forward to seeing you at next week’s conferences. These are held all day Thursday, October 26, and Friday morning, October 27. On these days, there will be no school. If you still need to sign up for a time, please contact your child’s teacher directly. Thursday is also a great day to visit the book fair, which is open all day from 8am to 7:30pm.
Thank you all and have a wonderful weekend!

Student Services Parent Partnership Meeting - October 25
Join us for the next Student Services Parent Partnership meeting on Wednesday, October 25th from 4:30-6:00 pm at the Sherwood School District Office! These meetings provide an opportunity to build positive connections and learn more about special education and Section 504. Please RSVP to Angela Thiemann at 503-825-5035 or athiemann@sherwood.k12.or.us.
Volunteer Background Checks
Every volunteer in Sherwood School District must have a criminal background check completed each school year (July 1-June 30). Background checks take 7-10 business days to process. Background checks are required for each school year, so background checks completed prior to July 1, 2023 are not valid for the 23-24 school year.
Once your background checks clear, names are added to the approved volunteer list for all SSD schools. Please note: no approval notice goes out to cleared volunteers, so if you have questions about your submission or want to confirm your background check has been processed and approved, please contact the office of the school you would like to volunteer
To complete the volunteer approval process for 2023-24, please complete the form below:
