Back-to-School News
Early August 2021
Welcome back!
As we have shared with our school community, we are planning for a full-time return to in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year.
As we continue to finalize our back-to-school plans and adjust to any new guidance, our students’ and staff’s health and safety continues to remain our highest priority. Back-to-school information is located below. Please watch for details from your child’s school regarding additional school-specific information. In addition, more information is available on our school and district websites. We can’t wait to welcome you back to our schools and classrooms soon!
Masks/face coverings
It is clear in the updated guidance and from directives from Governor Inslee that masks/face coverings are required inside of all K-12 schools and on all buses, regardless of vaccination status. This is a state requirement. Masks/face coverings are not required when outdoors. Mask/face covering exceptions may be made for students with certain medical conditions or receiving special education services in some cases and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Remote learning option
As noted, our district is planning for the return of all students to return to full-time in-person learning this fall. For those families of elementary students who are looking to continue with a remote option for their student, we will offer a self-guided home school option through our Parent Partnership Program (PPP) located at our Parkway Campus (525 13th Street in Snohomish). At the middle and high school grades, a remote option will not be offered during the 2021-2022 school year. Our partial in-person PPP program and AIM High School options will continue to remain available to these grade levels.
Apex Online Learning will only be used for secondary credit recovery and as a student acceleration option. Apex will not be available as it was in the 2020-2021 school year as a remote option.
You can learn more about each of these options by reaching out to Principal Doug Plucker at ppp@sno.wednet.edu or (360) 563-3403.

Back-to-school events
We know many families are anxiously awaiting details about back-to-school events that are traditionally held each year, such as orientations, ice cream socials, meet and greets, homecoming, etc. We are finalizing many of the details for those events and activities now. Please see start-up information below. As soon as plans are finalized or should existing plans get adjusted, our schools will share updates with their specific school communities.
COVID-19 vaccinations for staff
Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal has recommended to Governor Inslee that all K-12 teachers and staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. The governor is considering this vaccination recommendation and will likely have more information to share in the coming days. As we learn more about the recommendation and possible mandate, we will share this information and its impacts with our community.

Kindergarten & new student registration
Online registration materials are available at www.sno.wednet.edu/newstudentenrollment. We encourage families to utilize the online student enrollment and registration available at that site.

The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a child development program for children aged 3 or 4 and their families. Children who experience poverty, homelessness, or are living in foster or kinship care, or are adopted from foster or kinship care, as well as children receiving special education services with the school district, are prioritized. Although it is uncertain what the opening of school will look like for the fall, ECEAP is still enrolling students and offering family support coaching, teacher check-ins, resources, educational activities, as well as online family support groups and informational classes to help ready your child for school. Please call 360-563-4641 for more information or 360-563-4636 for more information in Spanish.

Required student state immunizations
Every student enrolled/registered in school or childcare in the state of Washington must have medically verified immunization records on file with the school in which they are enrolled/registering. Please take the coming weeks to check with your child's physician to make sure your student is up-to-date on all their required immunizations. Medically verified immunization records include one or more of the following:
- A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (IIS)
- A physical copy of the CIS form with a healthcare provider signature
- A physical copy of the CIS form with accompanying medical immunization records from a healthcare provider verified and signed by school staff
- A CIS printed from MyIR
The update to Chapter 246-105 WAC has three major focuses:
- It now requires medically verified immunization records for school and childcare entry.
- It clarifies conditional status in regard to school and childcare immunization requirements and implementation.
- It changes the Tdap immunization requirement to 7th through 12th grades.
