Week of November 23rd
MSD will be closed to in-person instruction until November 30.
The virtual instructional day is from 9am to 2:30pm. This includes specials and lunch. Students log on to their Google Classroom at 9am to begin their school day with a live morning meeting. Classroom teachers will provide additional information on their classroom schedule.
No classes on 11/26-11/27 (Thanksgiving)
In-person learning is scheduled to resume on November 30. The Morris School District maintains, and has always maintained, that offering in-person instruction (safely) is essential to the academic, social, and emotional success of so many of our students. Even so, we urge families to be prepared throughout the remainder of the school year for periodic closures that may come without much advance notice. Please have plans in place for backup childcare arrangements.

Let’s Talk About Race, Equity and Inclusion
This part of the newsletter will have a question or a topic for you to discuss with your child(ren). This can be done on the way to school, on the way to sports practice, before dinner, at bedtime, etc.
Each week there will be a “something to think about” question and a “something to talk about” question. The “something to think about question” is for you as a parent to reflect on for yourself. The “something to talk about” question is for you to discuss with your child. These exercises are meant to stimulate a conversation on race, equity and inclusion in America.
Week Eleven
Parent Reflection Question: Have you ever heard the term microaggression?
(A microaggression is the everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership). An example of a microaggression might be saying “You are so articulate” or “You sound like a white person” to a person of color. Very often people do not mean to be insulting when they make a microaggression; however, these comments can feel very demeaning and can erode someone’s self-concept when they are repeatedly subjected to them.
Eleventh Question For Child: Have you ever said something to someone that hurt their feelings and you didn’t know why? Even if you didn’t mean to hurt the other person’s feelings, you are still responsible for what you said. An apology is still in order. Is it always easy to apologize? Why or why not?
Kindergarten Information Session
Please pass on information to friends and family interested in enrolling in Normandy Park School for the 2021-2022 school year. I will be hosting an information session in December and February for prospective NPS families. The session will allow families to learn more about our program and community.

Grab & Go Meals (Update)
Grab & Go meals will be available for all students, who wish to receive them. The Federal Department of Agriculture has extended waivers that will allow MSD to serve ALL students meals for FREE through December 31, 2020.
Meals During Closure
NEW: Revised Information on Meal Service, 11/18-25. Effective Wednesday, November 18, 2020, all students can pick up free breakfast and lunch at either Morristown High School or Lafayette Learning Center. There will be two (2) service times each day at both locations, at 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM and again at 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Service days will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday. There will be no service on Friday, November 27, due to the Thanksgiving break; extra meals will be provided on Wednesday, November 25. Morristown High School service will be located at the rear circle by the flagpole off of Atno Avenue. Lafayette Learning Center will be at the main entrance on the side of the building.

Communication between Home and School
- When in-person instruction resumes, if there are changes in your child's dismissal plans (e.g. you are going to pick them up that day, instead of taking the bus), please use the attached form or call the main office.
- For written communication between you and your child's teacher, please utilize Class Dojo and/or e-mail, rather than hand-written letters (when possible).
