Hello Mayo Families!
Last week was out of this world - literally. We had the privilege of watching a live interview between Central Tree Middle School in Rutland and the International Space Station. The Mayo students loved it - although the younger kids may have just been amazed by the non-gravity hair of the astronauts!
We also had the entire Kindergarten parade through the halls for the 100th day of school on Wednesday, a special lesson on the Lunar New Year in 4G, and the engineering of structures by 3-O and 3W to test against various weather conditions. Great learning experiences happening at Mayo!
Don't forget that February break is next week. With the number of recent student and staff absences, I think we all need a break!
A few reminders:
* Please do not drop off students in front of the school in the morning. For safety, cars must go to carpool behind the school to drop off students.
* Remind your students to go right to their class in the morning. Some students are taking quite a bit of time arriving, going to the caf to get breakfast and then slowly getting to their classroom. Your child may be losing learning time after already having breakfast at home.
* To avoid any hurt feelings, we ask that any birthday invitations be for all in the class (or all girls/all boys) if distributed in school.
* Grade 5 Postural screening is this Friday. If you have had this completed by your PCP, see the Opt-out form HERE. Please call the school Nurse with any questions or concerns.

Bus Safety
Reminder
Please remind your child(ren) about maintaining safe behaviors on the school bus. We have had an uptick in behaviors since our return from winter break. There is detailed information in the Mayo Handbook (link at bottom of SMORE) but here is some basic info pertaining to our biggest safety concerns. Students must:
- Remain in his/her seat when the bus is moving
- Restrict his/her talking to those children who are sitting next to him/her. Shouting will distract the bus driver
- Not use inappropriate language
- Not fight-bully-tease others on the bus.
We appreciate your help keeping our bus rides safe!

FAQ
My girl isn't a big runner; is this program for her? OR My girl is already a skilled runner. Is this program for her?
Yes! We are much more than a running program, and every participant can benefit from the experience of building confidence through accomplishment while participating in our rich, curriculum-based, age-appropriate, interactive lessons. Expect lots of games, talking, laughing and processing in addition to running at each practice. And know that when we say run, we mean run, walk, skip, roll or push, just as long as you are moving foward.
Do girls need to attend both days each week in order to register?
Yes! Since most of our teams fill up quickly, if your girl will be unable to attend all the sessions, please save room for a girl who can, and consider joining us in a future season when she can enjoy the entire program.
Nursing Notes
Info from Nurse Mangum
- If your child needs to use cough drops (lozenges), please send them in with a note. They will be kept at the nurse's office and the student will need to visit the office as needed. Students are not allowed to keep cough drops with them.
