February 2024
A Word From Our Principal
Hello Fridley Families!
So many things are happening this month!
We are now finishing our first week of the 2nd semester and are looking forward to all of the big events this spring. Final grades have been posted for first semester in Campus and report cards should be arriving soon. Class of 2024 parents, if you have not already completed the parent survey, please do so. This survey will help us to get accurate numbers for sizing and seating for graduation.
Sign up for spring sports will begin on Feb. 12th. If you have a child who is interested in participating please connect with Kayla Bryson-Rivera (kayla.bryson-rivera@fridley.k12.mn.us)
in the activities office. This month we are celebrating Black History Month. Our students will be participating in a district wide presentation at the end of the month which will consist of spoken word, dance, song etc. This performance will be live streamed. More information to come.
In the meantime, enjoy this balmy February!

Extended Day – Credit Recovery
If you are a sophomore who is 16 years old or a junior or senior and need credit recovery, please schedule an appointment to see your dean. Credit recovery is offered at the high school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Credit recovery is required for any student who fails a required course for graduation.
Senior On Track/Not ON Track Letters
Letters to families of students who are credit deficient will be mailed home soon to update families on any credit recovery needs. These letters will reflect posted grades from 1st semester. All credit recovery will need to be completed by the end of May in order to participate in commencement.
Course Changes for 2nd semester
When students request courses during the registration process in February of last year, they agree to pursue the chosen courses to completion. Since schedule changes have a serious impact on class sizes, teacher assignments and overall master schedule, they need to be kept to a minimum. Please use the following list below as a guide to schedule corrections:
- The student does not have the prerequisite(s)
- The student failed the class
- There is an obvious error (two classes at the same time)
- To add a class that is needed to graduate
- The schedule is unbalanced
Schedule changes will not be made for:
- Request a specific teacher
- Request a specific trimester
- Change lunch periods
- Have a class with a friend
- Leave to attend non-school sanctioned occupational activity
You might also notice a slight change in your students' schedule since the beginning of the year. We do, at times, move student schedules to balance class size within a semester and between semesters. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
Get Ready
Hello Fridley Families! / ¡Hola Familias De Fridley!
Una traducción de este mensaje está disponible en español al final de este mensaje.
I am emailing to introduce ourselves as the Get Ready Team here at Fridley Senior High School. My name is Kezia Burrows and my coworker is Matthew Kiefer. Our office is located in the Fridley High School Media Center. We work with your students to ensure they are ready for life after high school. Whether they want to attend college, become an apprentice, or jump straight into their career, we've got them covered.
We are hoping these emails will keep us more connected and help us communicate information about our seniors more seamlessly. If at any time you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please let us know. If you are removed from this mailing list, you will only receive Get Ready updates through the e-newsletter sent out every month through Fridley.
I want to note some important things for the beginning of the second semester:
1) We aim to complete 90% of FAFSA applications here at Fridley. We are working with you and your students to make sure we reach that goal!
2)The FAFSA finally opened on December 31st,2023. Please create an FSA ID Account if you and your student have not done so yet. Be sure to save your backup code to recover your account if needed.
3) We have 2 upcoming family nights this month to help you all understand the FAFSA and complete it with confidence. This is a new FAFSA so we see that it is much shorter and simplified.
Our first FAFSA Family Night will take place on February 13th here at Fridley High School in the Media Center from 4 pm - 7 pm.
Our second FAFSA Family Night (Virtual) will take place on February 20th on Zoom from 4 pm – 7 pm. Please click here to select an appointment time on Zoom. If you are not able to attend any of the sessions, there will be more opportunities in March.
On the day of your virtual meeting please be sure to have the following materials:
· Social Security Number
· FSA ID
· 2022 Tax forms (1040 form)
· Current checking and savings account
If you have any questions before the meeting time you selected, please contact Kezia Burrows (burrows@isd14.org) or Matt Kiefer (kiefer@isd14.org). You can also give us a call at 763-502-5790.

"I Love To Read"
February is "I Love to Read" Month. Students will be invited to compete in a Book Bingo, enter a reading challenge, read with pre-school students, and share their favorite books. Parents and families play a crucial role in supporting schools and promoting the importance of reading. One way families can support schools is by encouraging their children to read regularly and providing them with a variety of reading materials at home. Parents can also engage in reading-related activities with their student, such as creating a dedicated reading time together or discussing books they have read. Share what your favorite books were at their age! Additionally, families can participate in school-wide or classroom reading events and initiatives, such as literacy circles that take place in English classes or book clubs, and our school wide reading challenge. By actively participating in "I Love to Read" Month and supporting their student's reading habits, parents and families help create a culture of literacy that benefits the entire school community.
