Noon Message to Families
SAFELonghorn Winter Break Reminders

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Welcome back!
I feel like we have to say that again, because shortly after an enjoyable Winter Break, we had the opportunity for a second four-day weekend.
First, we celebrated the amazing legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. last Monday. Following that, we canceled school on Tuesday, January 16, out of an abundance of caution with dangerously low temperatures.
Here we are, at the brink of the first full week of school since mid-December (weather-permitting).
I cannot understate the importance of having a successful spring 2024 semester. The next four months will truly determine the success of our 2023-2024 academic school year.
We have an obligation to our scholars to ensure that we’re at the top of our collective games to make it a reality.
Scholars have opportunities to show their expertise, via course assessments and mastering grade level material. It’s upon us to help them maximize their potential.
When it comes to Career & Technical Education (CTE), our team at Cedar Hill High School must work with these scholars to prepare them for the world after high school – whether that’s in college, career or the military.
Our performance in these areas will ultimately determine how we’re perceived, both externally and internally.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson

As we navigate the exciting world of education, it's essential to recognize that mathematics isn't confined to textbooks and classrooms. Math is all around us, embedded in our daily lives and experiences. Let’s explore some creative ways to promote math learning through real-world experiences for our CHISD scholars.
Cooking Creations:
Invite your child to join you in the kitchen! Cooking provides numerous opportunities for math exploration:
Measuring Ingredients: Practice fractions and measurement while creating delicious recipes.
Time Management: Discuss cooking times and use a timer to reinforce time concepts.
Grocery Store Adventures:
Turn a routine trip to the grocery store into a math adventure:
Budgeting: Involve your child in setting a budget for groceries and making choices within that budget.
Comparing Prices: Discuss unit pricing to find the best deals on items.
DIY Home Projects:
Engage in simple home improvement projects:
Measurement Skills: Measure and mark spaces for painting or furniture placement.
Geometry Exploration: Discuss shapes and angles when working on various projects.
Math Games Night:
Make math fun with family game nights:
Board Games: Many board games involve counting, strategizing, and critical thinking.
Card Games: Play card games that reinforce math skills like addition and multiplication.
Nature Exploration:
Take math outdoors and connect with nature:

Counting and Patterns: Count petals on flowers or observe patterns in leaves and tree bark.
Technology Integration:
Leverage technology to make math interactive:
Educational Apps: Explore math apps that make learning engaging and interactive.
Virtual Math Puzzles: Solve online puzzles and brainteasers together.
Financial Literacy Discussions:
Introduce age-appropriate financial concepts:
Allowance Management: Teach budgeting and saving through an allowance system.
Shopping Decisions: Discuss the value of money and decision-making during purchases.

Mathematics can be an integral part of travel experiences:
Map Reading: Plan routes and calculate distances during road trips.
Time Zone Conversations: Explore time differences during travels.
STEM Challenges at Home:
Engage in simple STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) challenges:
Building Projects: Construct structures using everyday materials.
Problem Solving: Tackle real-world problems together, encouraging critical thinking.
Math in Literature:
Integrate math into reading sessions:

Word Problems: Create and solve simple word problems based on stories.
By incorporating math into real-world experiences, we can foster a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom. These activities not only reinforce mathematical concepts but also highlight the practical applications of math in our daily lives.
If you have any additional ideas or success stories to share, we would love to hear from you! Together, let's make math an exciting and meaningful adventure for our children.
Mrs Kennedy and Ms Harrison- CHHS Theatre Directors
The CHHS Red Army Theatre Directors were nominated by a parent for Expecting Excellence!
"They have been leading the Red Army troupe that has excelled in costume design, theater, and production on the state and national level. The troupe was challenged, competed, and excelled at the state thespian festival with 13 national qualifying students and even had Disney callbacks. They are creating leaders in the arts! Hopefully, the students will be able to attend nationals with funding and support from the district. These students have excelled due to the countless hours of preparation and high expectations from these talented and dedicated teachers. They are changing the lives of these scholars and have encouraged them to volunteer in the community, mentor middle and elementary students, and serve their peers. These teachers are the epitome of excellence! Thank you!"
