Education Director's Newsletter
December 2020
Gratitude
- Coeur d'Alene Tractor for giving us a huge discount on a battery powered snowblower; allowing us to keep our sidewalks safe for drop-off and pick-up.
- Our morning and afternoon parking lot volunteers; we appreciate you standing out in the cold to ensure that drop-off and pick-up is safe, quick, and organized.
- Our lunch heroes and hiking heroes for helping out and supporting our teachers and students.
...and thank you Kindergarten families for creating family "feathers" for our turkey. It turned out amazing!
Academic News
1st quarter progress reports will be sent home on Monday December 7. Our progress reports are mastery based, showing each student's progress towards grade level standards.
Progress reports will be placed in a manilla envelope with a parent signature label attached ,and will be given to your child at the end of the day. Please sign the label and return the envelope with your child for next quarter's progress report. You may keep your child's report. Should your child not bring their progress report home, please contact the office for a copy. If you have ANY questions regarding your child's grades or understanding mastery based grading, do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher. We will have an explanatory letter included with the progress report describing what how to interpret mastery based grading and what it mean for your child.
With the first quarter under our belts and student assessments completed, we are ready to begin flexing into differentiated groups. These groups will allow your child to learn at his/her level in ELA and Math. These groups will focus on targeted intervention, at grade level, and accelerated learning. We want to assure you that students will remain in their cohorts for the most part; however, in cases where students flex in with students from other grade levels, we will do our part to sanitize learning areas and continue masking to minimize chances of Covid-19 transmission. With this flexing, student groups will be smaller allowing for a greater opportunity for challenging students, providing needed supports, and increased student success.

A Time for Giving
Ornaments labeled with a child's age and item needed will be available on our tree beginning Monday December 7. Please wrap gift items and attach the chosen ornament to the gift so we know who the gift is for. We are asking that gifts are donated by December14, so we can get them delivered to Children's Village.

Reminders
- Many of our students are leaving their masks at home and we are quickly depleting our supply of disposable masks. We have ordered more; however, it would be very helpful if students bring their own mask.
- Wash masks regularly, we are beginning to see some masks that need cleaning.
- Please help us keep morning drop off traffic from backing up. When dropping students off in the morning, please pull forward as far as possible before unloading students.
- When parking and walking up to drop off or pick up your students, please use the crosswalk. We want to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Thank You!
