60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
Our teachers continue to assess students throughout the year. As early as kindergarten, it is important to determine where students are excelling and where they might need some extra instruction. In Mrs. Medaglia’s kindergarten class at Whitney, she is working with Mrs. Ambroziak - Gifted Intervention Specialist - to provide additional accelerated instruction in math to continue to help our students grow. Click HERE for this week’s episode as we learn more about how this collaboration is benefitting some of our youngest learners.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MELISSA FRIEDMAN, 5TH GRADE TEACHER AT SURRARRER ELEMENTARY
Mrs. Melissa Friedman has been teaching in our District for 17 years. Mrs. Friedman has taught at Zellers Elementary and Chapman Elementary, and is currently teaching 5th grade at Surrarrer Elementary. She earned her undergraduate degree from The College of Wooster and also a graduate degree from The Ohio State University.
“I love the unknown that each day can bring as a teacher. Kids are not widgets and even with the best laid plans, they throw you curveballs each and every day. You don't know what a student may say or do, so you always need to be on your toes and stay flexible. No two days are ever the same! I enjoy the interaction with the students each day. I looped with my current students (taught with them in 4th grade last year, and am now their 5th grade teacher) and this is the first time I have ever done that. There are so many advantages to having the same kids two years in a row. You already know their strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes from day one, so you can really hit the ground running at the beginning of the year. That feeling of a "class family" that builds over the course of a year is already present from the beginning and that has really been neat this year. Seeing the educational and emotional growth of the kids over the course of two years instead of one is a nice adventure to be on,” said Mrs. Friedman.
“There is so much parental support in our district and I truly appreciate knowing the support exists for whatever may be needed. I feel fortunate to work as a team with the parents for the benefit of their children. I enjoy making the school environment a positive one for all the students in my building, not just the ones in my homeroom. I also enjoy working on the PBIS committee in my building and coming up with new monthly incentives. I like using student feedback and help in creating PBIS goals and incentives that are meaningful and attainable for all the kids at Surrarrer.”
Thank you Mrs. Friedman for being a positive influence for our 5th grade students at Surrarrer Elementary! #BeTheDifference

SMS FOOTBALL INTEREST SURVEY - 2023 SEASON
In order for Strongsville City Schools to secure the necessary equipment for next year’s football season, our Athletic Department is asking families to fill out this survey. With supply chain issues continuing to be a factor, football equipment can be difficult to obtain in a timely fashion. We need to know now how much equipment is needed to outfit our HUGE class of current 6th and 7th grade football players as well as the rest of the potential SCS football players for the 2023 season. Even if you think your child might not be interested please have an exploratory conversation with them. Thank you!
