Lorenzo Dow Hendricks Elementary Groundbreaking
On October 19, 2023, we celebrated the groundbreaking of Lorenzo Dow Hendricks Elementary, Anna ISD's fifth elementary school. Set to open its doors for the 2025-2026 school year, this fantastic addition will serve PreK-5th grade students.
The school is named after Mr. Hendricks, who dedicated 28 years to Anna ISD as a grade school principal and Superintendent. His legacy lives on through this new school. This new elementary school stands as a testament to the legacy of the Hendricks family and their enduring impact on our district.
This new addition located near the intersection of South Hackberry Drive and North Ferguson Parkway, will help us to continue shaping bright, promising futures for the young minds of Anna, Texas. We look forward to the day when we can welcome our students, parents, and the community into this wonderful educational space.
Anna ISD School Board President Shelli Conway chosen by the Leadership Texas Association of School Boards Alumni Association to serve as their President
LTASB is a program that inspires school board trustees to be proactive, visionary leaders who promote educational excellence for ALL children in Texas public schools. It is a rigorous program that aims to cultivate skills and habits to improve board effectiveness, heighten knowledge of, and influence policies for, state and national educational issues, and model ethical leadership through learning, mentoring, and empowerment.
After completing the LTASB program as a Master Trustee in 2020, Anna ISD Board President Shelli Conway became a member of the LTASB Alumni Association.
The LTASB Alumni Association, with close to 900 members, provides an avenue through which those members can act to improve Texas independent school districts by striving to do such things as providing scholarships and recruitment, supporting networking among graduates from across the state, sharing board best practices, and advocating for the more than 5 million school children in the more than 1200 districts across the State of Texas.
In 2022, Conway was elected by her Alumni peer group to serve on the Executive Board, and earlier this month was chosen by that Board to act as President for the upcoming year.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
AISD staff and parents-
Please be on the lookout for a new phishing attempt in which bad actors use QR codes to steal account credentials and bypass multi-factor authentication (MFA). In the example at right, notice the use of the Garland ISD logo and the text “Messages sent to you are on hold.” These tactics are meant to trick you into scanning the QR code with your phone. Usually, scanning the QR code will take you to a fake email login page, where you will be asked to input your username and password. Once you type in your credentials, the hackers will pass those credentials on to the real email login portal, at which time you will get an MFA prompt. The fake site will ask you to put in your SMS code or tap “Approve” in your Authenticator app, and if you do that, the hackers will have access to your email account.
QR codes aren’t just malicious in emails alone. QR codes can be found on fliers, posters, and other media out in public places that would seemingly be trustworthy but might not be. You CANNOT tell by looking at a QR code if it is malicious or not. Be very cautious of QR codes in public places, particularly if they redirect you to a website that requests your login or personally identifiable information.
Bottom line: use caution when scanning QR codes and be aware of their possible use by hackers.
Student Services
Let's Talk About Behavior
If you’ve been on social media or talked with a student or an educator, you may have heard stories about student behavior that concern you. While much of what goes around is isolated, inaccurate, or exaggerated, it is true that schools around the nation have seen an uptick in misbehavior since the pandemic. Studies have shown increases in classroom disruptions and disrespectful behavior.
It is not surprising that students, educators, and families are feeling the impact. Behavior management and social-emotional learning have quickly become a priority out of necessity.
Anna ISD recognizes that behavior issues take a multi-tiered approach. We have committed staff, training, resources, and time during the school day to focus on mental health and SEL education, as well as tightening up on consistent discipline procedures.
We appreciate our families and community members who have stepped up as volunteers, mentors, and advocates for our kids and staff. If you would like to know more about how you can be involved, please contact dana.walker@annaisd.org.

Nominate an Anna ISD employee for a Coyote Salute
WHAT IS A COYOTE SALUTE?
It's our monthly employee recognition program. A Coyote Salute is awarded to individual staff members, and a Collaborative Coyote Salute is awarded to a group of staff members that have done something EXTRA special and beyond their regular job duties.
WHY:
We want to intentionally honor staff members who have gone the EXTRA mile for our students.
WHO:
Think of teachers using innovative teaching strategies or support staff members who go that extra mile to make our children feel safe and loved. This award is not limited to individual recipients. Collaboration encourages professional growth and student success. We would also like to honor teams of staff members who collectively worked on a positive project or had a fantastic outcome on something important to our students.
HOW:
Any Anna ISD employee, parent, or community member may nominate AISD staff members who have gone above and beyond their specific job duties by filling out this form. From your nominations, a recognition committee will select the recipients for a Coyote Salute and the groups for a Collaborative Coyote Salute.
WHEN:
You may nominate staff anytime you see someone or a group that goes above and beyond their regular job duties. Staff members who have been selected for a Coyote Salute or Collaborative Coyote Salute will be notified by the Administration and recognized at an upcoming board meeting.
