RISE: Raising & Inspiring Successful Entrepreneurs
What is RISE?
The Raising & Inspiring Successful Entrepreneurs (RISE) Workbook features 60 activities that can be done over the course of a year with an elementary aged child and is created around thirteen key concepts in entrepreneurial thinking: PERSISTENCE AND GRIT, EMBRACING FAILURE, COURAGE, OPPORTUNITY-SEEKING, CREATIVITY, CURIOSITY, RESOURCEFULNESS, PROBLEM-SOLVING, OPTIMISM, EMPATHY, ADAPTABILITY, FINANCIAL LITERACY, and an overall GROWTH MINDSET.
The RISE Workbook is easy to use for parents/families/community organizations and elementary school kids, bilingual, and FREE.
With RISE, we hope that adults can teach kids life skills that will help them get ready for the 21st century mindset that more employers are looking for and more schools are trying to incorporate into lessons because it has proven to help children recognize opportunities, solve problems, resolve conflict better, manage risk, and be more optimistic.
How can I access the RISE Curriculum? – The curriculum will be available for download soon.
How much does the RISE Curriculum cost? – RISE is FREE for use.

Get Moving This Summer and Have Fun with Your Kids!
Summer Walk and Talk
Research shows that kids are sometimes more comfortable connecting when they’re engaged in activities with you, like coloring, or cooking, or exercising. There’s something about being together side by side that helps get the ball rolling on good conversation. Do you know what you want to talk about when you have those golden moments with your kids? Have you practiced ways to bring up topics of importance with them when you can sense they are receptive?
The TODAY Parenting Team is partnering with us to bring you this summer Walk and Talk challenge. When you sign up, you will be gifted with a set of topics created by family physician Dr. Deborah Gilboa, as well as a mileage log. Each topic – 26 in all – matches up with a mile of walking or running with your child. After 26(.2) miles, you and your child will have completed the equivalent of a full marathon, and have gotten to know each other a little better in the process.
There are lots of ways to get your miles in this summer: hike, walk, jog, run, roll, skip. And you can count steps everywhere you go, including parks, the beach, vacation spots, boardwalks, sporting events, and concerts.
Sign up for this free program today and receive your Walk and Talk mileage log and talking topics in early June!
Summer Water Safety TIPS
Swim Healthy, Stay Healthy!
Swimming is a fun and a great way to stay healthy and spend time with family and friends in the summer. However multiple sicknesses can be cause by pathogens or chemicals in public pools, hot tubs/spas, and water playgrounds.
As summer arrives, prepare to take precautions. The CDC advises that kids don’t swim with diarrhea, that no one swallows the water, and that parents take kids on bathroom breaks.
To learn other tips for healthy swimming and injury prevention, read the brief.
Family Time: Board Games
Board games and card games are one of the best ways you can connect with your kids after a busy day, but if you play a mind-numbing game like Chutes & Ladders, it can have the opposite effect.
You'll be bored out of your skull, and your child will pick up on that. Instead of reconnecting and laughing together, you'll be anxious for the game to end, leaving your kid to wonder why you don't want to play with her.
And if you want even more ideas, check out this list of the best games for a wide range of ages – from tweens to little kids.

Response to Texas School Shooting
The American Psychological Association (APA) in response to the shooting in Santa Fe, Texas has called for the development of evidence based resources to address gun violence in schools.
For people who are suffering distress or wanting to better understand gun violence, that APA offers a variety of resources to help get through tough times.
To read the press release and access the resources, go online.
Resources include:
- Helping children manage distress in the aftermath of a shooting;
- How to talk to children about difficult news and tragedies;
- How much news coverage is OK for children?;
- Warning signs of youth violence;
- Managing your distress in the aftermath of a shooting; and
- More.
Do you have a child with a disability over the age of 26?
Before a young adult with a disability reaches age 26, you may want to take action to ensure that health insurance coverage continues. There are multiple options available to extend coverage, but not all of the options are available to everyone. If you do qualify to extend coverage, it is not automatic and there are steps you need to take.
In a new blog post from the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD), you can learn what you need to know about extending health insurance coverage for a young adult with a disability.
The blog post covers the following:
- how to continue the same coverage under a parent's plan,
- alternative methods for extending coverage if a parent's plan is not an option, and
- how to save money on insurance premiums.
In addition to outlining how to qualify for certain options, the blog post also provides specific steps to take and timelines for extending health insurance coverage.
