English Department - AP Program
In the AP program, students are beginning their preparation for upcoming AP exams in May. During second semester, AP Lang students will read The Crucible and Julius Caesar in order to closely analyze rhetorical choices and appeals in addition to studying units centered around gender and food. They will continue to practice synthesizing multiple sources, writing rhetorical analysis essays, and composing arguments. In AP Lit, students are currently reading Othello by William Shakespeare and will focus on characterization, motifs, and poetic devices while incorporating evidence and commentary to support their analysis in their writing. The works studied, discussions generated, and work assigned and completed in these courses closely align with AP’s Course and Exam Descriptors and College Board skills and standards.
Artistic Endeavors at Rowland High
Exploring Color Chemistry and Conceptual Inquiry: Artistic Endeavors at Rowland High.
At Rowland High School, our Art 1 class is delving into the intricacies of Color Theory, adopting the roles of chemists in a laboratory. Through a hands-on approach, students are meticulously mixing and painting, striving to replicate reference colors with precision and finesse. This experiential learning process not only enhances their understanding of color relationships but also cultivates an appreciation for the scientific principles underlying artistic expression.
Meanwhile, in our Advanced/AP Art class, students are immersed in the art of inquiry. Each artwork serves as a response to a guiding question, prompting students to engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative exploration. Through this process, they are not merely creating visually stunning pieces but also delving into profound concepts, pushing the boundaries of artistic innovation.
From the meticulous blending of hues in Art 1 to the thought-provoking inquiries tackled by our Advanced/AP Art students, the halls of Rowland High are alive with creativity, innovation, and boundless imagination.
