GREETINGS FROM MRS. G!
December 22, 2023
Dear Berlin Community,
I hope this message finds you and your family in good health and high spirits as we get ready to embark on a new year together. As we say goodbye to the challenges and triumphs of the past year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey and express my gratitude for the opportunity to work with you and your child(ren).
First and foremost, I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the chance to get to know our amazing staff and students at Berlin Elementary School. Their dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to education have been a constant source of inspiration for me, and I am truly grateful for their ongoing support of our community.
I want to assure you that the well-being and social-emotional growth of our students remain our top priorities. Together, we have been actively focusing on building strong social and emotional skills through various activities as a whole school and in our classrooms. On the 3rd of January I will be presenting at the start of the WCUUSD board meeting on what’s been happening at BES. Our goal is to foster a positive and inclusive school environment where every student feels safe, supported, and valued.
Looking ahead to the new year, I am excited to share that we will be embarking on a special project called the Happiness Project in the 2024 school year. This initiative aims to cultivate an atmosphere of joy, mindfulness, and personal growth for our students, staff, and their families. Through a series of engaging activities and discussions, we will explore the principles of happiness and well-being, helping our students develop skills to navigate challenges and find fulfillment in their lives.
None of this would be possible without your continued support and involvement of our Berlin Community. Your unwavering commitment to your child's education and your active participation in school events and initiatives have been instrumental in creating a thriving learning environment.
As we dive into this new year together, I am filled with excitement and optimism for what lies ahead. Let’s continue to work hand in hand, nurturing the growth and development of our young learners, and guiding them towards a future full of possibilities.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful vacation and the very best in 2024!
Be Well,
Celia Guggemos/Mrs. G
Bolton Elementary After School Ski Program
Hello Berlin Families:
My name is Marja Makinen and I will be coordinating the Berlin Elementary ASP (after school program) at Bolton Valley Resort this season. This is a great opportunity for kids to get out on the slopes and get equipment and lessons. No experience is necessary and beginner lessons are available. The session we will be doing this year will run for 5 weeks on Wednesday afternoons (330-730) starting Feb 14 and going through March 20 with March 27 being a make up day. Lessons generally begin around 430 and kids are welcome to stay as long as they like (night lifts run until 10pm)
The cost is broken down into 4 parts of which all are optional.
- Lift ticket $90 (do not need if you have a season pass)- this covers all 5 weeks
- Lessons $75- this is a 1 hour lesson each week divided by skier/rider level (see below) as well as by snowboarder/skier. Max of 8 kids in each group, some of which may be from other schools. Lessons are optional.
- Rental equipment $70- ski or snowboard- this is for the Wednesdays of the program only. If you wish to get a season rental package that is available for $109 (talk to me for details)
- Helmet Rental $25
Food options include: $50 for 5 weeks of the buffett which includes chicken tenders, mac-n-cheese, and fries. Kids can also use the cafeteria. MTN credit is an option. This is a preloaded card for use anywhere at the resort, available through the website or at the mountain. Kids can also bring food from home.
We need a total of 10 kids to participate in this program. There is no transportation to the mountain provided. We may be able to put together rides, so don't hesitate to reach out to discuss this option. We do not have dedicated lodge space but usually take up a corner of the resort to hang out as a group and leave a few items. There will be no refunds provided by the resort.
If you are interested in a discounted rate as a chaperone, let me know, this may be an option.
All kids need a signed waiver and are encouraged to watch these videos for safety on the mountain:
I will need the following information for each child:
- Name
- Age
- Parent/Guardian & contact info
- Do you need a lift ticket? (anyone that does not have a season pass)
- Will you be getting lessons? & if so, what level (see below) and ski or snowboard?
- Will you be getting rentals for just Wednesdays of the ASP program?- if so, I will need Height, Weight, Ski or Snowboard, Shoe Size, Level, and whether or not you want a helmet included. If you desire a full season rental; that will be done through the Ski Shop on the mountain.
- Do you want the buffett?
There is an option for kids to use the nordic center which has a pool and a game room. The cost is $5/day.
Sorry for the load of info, I just wanted to get it out there for folks to look at and decide. Please call, text, or email me with questions- 802 338 7131. I'd like to have a tentative list of participants in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you,
Marja Makinen
