Flexible Instruction Day (FID) Information
With winter upon us, it’s a good time to review Vernfield Elementary’s procedures during a Flexible Instructional Day. Souderton Area School District will occasionally use Flexible Instructional Days (FID) rather than traditional “snow days.” Here is a brief reminder of FID expectations:
-An FID is considered a school day. To be counted as attending school, students must respond to the Schoology discussion post/question posted by their teacher. Students must respond to the post by 10:00AM. If a child is unable to access the Internet, then the parent should call the school office at 215-721-0606 to leave a message on the attendance line indicating that the student was unable to access Schoology.
-Students must complete schoolwork via Schoology and/or ClassLink. There will be no live sessions. Families can have their children complete schoolwork at a time that is convenient for their family during the FID. Your child’s teacher is available, via e-mail, throughout the school day to answer any questions regarding your child’s schoolwork.
-If your child is unable to access Schoology and/or ClassLink, they are to complete the work sent home in their “Alternate Work Folder.” The work in this folder is only to be used if the student cannot access Schoology and/or ClassLink. Your child must present the work from their folder to their teacher upon returning to school.
Students or families experiencing technology problems may contact the Student Help Desk for technology support. The Student Help Desk is available at:
https://www.soudertonsd.org/students-families/school-to-family-connection-tools/student-help-desk
Before submitting a support request, please follow the three steps below:
1. Restart your device (power off and power back on).
2. Check that your device is not in airplane mode.
3. Check that the wireless connection is enabled.
If you are having trouble with Schoology, ClassLink, or Office 365 please check the status of those applications to see if they are having a service interruption. Links to those sites are available via the link provided above.
HSA Board Spotlight: Secretary
Do you typically attend the Vernfield monthly HSA meetings, and would be willing to write up the meeting minutes? Then you could be the next HSA Board Secretary!
The Secretary position will be one of the 4 open Board positions available for the 2024-2026 school years. Key responsibilities include:
-Completion of meeting minutes following each HSA board meeting
-Light administrative oversight of the Vernfield HSA Facebook page
In addition to Secretary, the board is also accepting nominations for:
-President
-VP, Fundraising
-Co-Treasurer (1 of 2 positions)
Voting will be held during an HSA meeting this Spring, so that there is enough time for the transition from current board members.
Anyone who is interested in learning more about running for an HSA board position should reach out to Kristin Emmons for more information. kristin.m.emmons@gmail.com.
