During this year’s Teacher Appreciation Week, we celebrate more than just teachers excelling at what they do in regular classrooms, but what teachers have done to adapt and rise above this difficult past year of schooling. Whether teaching on Zoom, or in a classroom with half the students, teachers have definitely had to alter their traditional methods to accommodate the changing structure of this past year. This has been extremely challenging, and every teacher has had to show tenacity, flexibility, and really just sheer willpower to get through these challenging times. Teachers have had to get creative with how they teach and try different methods when it comes to teaching. I know the teachers I have this year have managed to build a strong relationship with their students even with half the year being totally online, and during a hectic A day, B day schedule. I think now more than ever, teachers are recognizing that the relationship with their students comes first, and it’s been great to see teachers evolve and change overtime throughout my four years of high school, always for the better. Superintendent Dr. Griffith had this to say when asked about the teachers in Talbot county, “Their experiences and innovations around what works for students regarding screen time, engagement, stamina, and so much more deserves important consideration and inclusion as the models are developed for future virtual learning environments for students in Maryland.” Besides a quote of her own, Dr. Griffith left me with a quote from Artist and Writer Kahlil Gibran, “The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter the house of his wisdom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind”.
HONOR A TCPS TEACHER DURING TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK - May 3 - May 7!
Teachers give us so much: a boost of confidence when we really need one; extra help when we’re having trouble; or a welcoming presence when everything else seems out of control. Although we know we can never thank them enough, especially this year, we can take a moment during National Teacher Appreciation Week to honor the special educators in our lives.
The TCPS Education Foundation Honor A Teacher program is a way to say “Thank You” to teachers and/or other TCPS staff who have a positive impact on student's education and school experience. Your gift will help support the Education Foundation's Grants for Teachers program. When you make a gift through this program, your honoree will receive a special certificate explaining why he or she is being recognized and we will celebrate it through TCPS social media.
All gift amounts are confidential and never disclosed to the honoree. It’s easy, just click this link: Honor A Teacher for instructions. You will be redirected to the Mid-Shore Community Foundation website to make your donation online.
If you have any questions please contact Debbie Gardner at dgardner@talbotschools.org. Thank you for honoring our teachers and supporting enrichment in Talbot County Public Schools!

Mid Shore Behavioral Health, Inc., Talbot County Public Schools, and RALI Maryland are teaming up to help parents and caregivers learn more about substance use in teenagers and young adults. Join us for a LIVE virtual tour of the RALI Cares trailer, panel discussion and Q&A with experts in law enforcement, substance use disorders and recovery, and mental health in young people. The RALI Cares trailer is outfitted to look like a teenager's or young adult’s bedroom, but it is filled with hidden warning signs of substance use. During the tour, former law enforcement will point out the red flags of substance use based on their years of experience and discuss ways to seek help if someone is struggling with addiction.
