Rise to the occasion
On October 1, seventeen year old Ava Donegan was stopped at a red light & found herself in the middle of a gunfight. She put a tourniquet on a police officer's arm after he was shot. It was in that moment that an unlikely hero emerged. Without regard for her own safety, she volunteered to help a officer in need. Ava was honored this week at a ceremony conducted by Clay County Sheriff's Department. Both the Sheriff & ES Police Chief gave their department's challenge coin to Ava to convey their appreciation for her heroism, the Mayor presented a Proclamation from the City & provided a $2,000 scholarship from Chuck Anderson Ford for a young lady with a bright future. In a letter from Mike Anderson, he wrote "you will alway be known as a young woman who made a difference".

This Week
- Investigation is ongoing regarding charges filed against Timothy Haslett. An investigation of this size is being conducted by the Metro Major Case Squad with assistance from KCPD, FBI, & Clay County.
- Bathymetric survey was conducted at Crystal Lakes to measure the depth of silt to calculate how much storm water storage would be possible if the silt was removed. The information derived from the survey will be analyzed during December. We will be reviewing solutions in January.
- The City will receive a grant from MO-DNR to conduct $5M of work in the N. Main/Kennedy Street area, including replacement of the N. Main Street low water bridge and terracing the riverbanks to increase the storage capacity of storm water. This is one of five projects currently identified in our Fishing River Watershed Study.
- Work at the Hall of Waters is 75-80% complete in the basement, next work will begin on the column enlargement. This will include adding rebar and forming up columns to receive concrete. Work on the water bar floor will begin next. We are reviewing materials to try and match the trazzo colors.
- The pool walls have been poured at the Community Center outdoor swimming pool, next storm water boxes are being installed & the site will be graded. At Powell Lake we are hauling out dried silt that has been removed from the pond, the next work is to start rebuilding the dam.
