Message from Principal Fredette and AP Dolan

Byam celebrated Dot Day on September 15th!

International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration based on the book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds! What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing. The book has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe, and it was exciting seeing so many of our Byam community participating in this celebration!

Early Release Day

On Wednesday, September 21, the district will have our first early release day for professional development. For Byam, that means we have an 11:45 am dismissal (gates open to stage cars at 11:30). Lunches are not served on this day and families who are attending extended day, must sign up specifically for this date. If your child's transportation will change from their typical Wednesday, please inform the school.

Notice if Daily Transportation Changes

Reminder if there is a change to your child(ren)'s daily dismissal routine on any school day (a change from bus to parent pick-up or vice versa), please write a note for your child to bring to their teacher. If it is a planned change and a note is forgotten that day, feel free to call the office, preferably by 2:00 pm, and our office staff will communicate the change to the classroom teacher(s).

Open House Curriculum Night

Open House Curriculum Night is such an important part of home-school partnership. This evening gives families a chance to learn about our plans for the school year.

Below are the hours for our Curriculum Open House on Wednesday, September 21.

Grades 3 and 4- 5:00-6:15

Families will begin the evening in the dining room for some brief remarks by Mr. Fredette and Mrs. Dolan. They will then proceed to classroom's for the teacher's presentation.

Specialists, Special Education and Support Staff- 6:15-7:00

These staff members will be available in their classrooms/offices during the above time block. Grades 3-4 families may visit after their classroom presentation and grades K-2 families can visit before the presentation time below.

Kindergarten, grades 1 and 2- 7:00-8:15

Families will begin the evening in the dining room for some brief remarks by Mr. Fredette and Mrs. Dolan. They will then proceed to classroom's for the teacher's presentation.

*This event is geared toward adults

Traffic on School Grounds

Thank you to everyone for adhering to our traffic flow patterns during school hours, especially for our arrival and dismissal procedures. Please note that the speed limit on school grounds is 15 mph. We appreciate you helping keeping our campus safe.

New Byam Library Prize Cart Is Accepting Book Donations

Some of you may have heard of our new Library Prize Cart! On special occasions or as a special reward, your child may be allowed to choose a book from our prize cart “to keep forever and ever” in addition to selecting a library book to borrow for the week.

These books are mostly donated books that I can’t use in the library collection (either a duplicate copy of one we already own, a soft cover that won’t hold up to continual use, or a book that was designed to be written in.) For now, I have an excellent selection, but I will accept your donations of books for the cart. They can be new or gently used, appropriate for grades K-4. Blank books (journals) have been especially popular! Your student can either bring book donations in their backpack, or you can drop donated children's books off to the Byam office.

3 R Expectations as Byam

You will hear a lot about the "3 R's" at Byam. The underlying theme is teaching behavioral expectations in the same manner as any core curriculum subject. This approach is a part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports system. Byam will focus on three behavioral expectations that are positively stated and easy to remember. In other words, rather than telling students what not to do, we will focus on the preferred behaviors. At Byam we are:

Respectful
Responsible
Ready

We recognize our students displaying these expectations by giving out "roars". Roars are stickers that students receive and then are acknowledged in our weekly announce video. Keep a lookout for roars coming home and ask your student want they did to receive it. As a school, we set roar goals during 3 points throughout the year and celebrate with an all school celebration if we hit our goals. We've giving expectation tours over the past two weeks on the various locations and will begin to implement our passport system next week to continue teaching these expectation. Below is the Byam matrix that highlights our 3 R expectations by location.

The Back to School Social was SO MUCH FUN!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Back to School social over the weekend! It was great to see folks catching up and meeting new families! 🍕🍦 Thank you to Zesty's Pizza and Dylan & Pete's Ice Cream for the delicious food! We love supporting local businesses!
