HSSD Construction Update
July 5-8, 2022
This weekly publication will showcase construction progress made across the district. The projects listed are the result of the successful April 2021 referendum, in which residents voted to approve $98 million in facilities updates at all eight HSSD schools. Wall Construction and Deconstruction
Masons are infilling doorways in Area D (the wood shop area).
Steel Stud Frames
Verhalen, the drywall contractor, is working on steel stud frames in Area D.
HVAC
Flooring
Interior floor openings that were previously cut and removed to install underground plumbing are being infilled with concrete.
Geofoam
The first order of Geofoam was delivered, which will be used underneath the new floor slabs to raise the floor up. This will limit the expense of using a substantial amount of concrete.
What's Next
- Iron workers will be arriving onsite to install roof joists and additional framing to the existing building. This will support snow loads that now need to be considered because of the new adjacent gym structure.
- Interior demo and installation will continue.
- The new gym addition will progress as more concrete footings and foundation walls will be poured.
- The masons will keep infilling openings and will start new wall construction.
Commons Space
Interior structural reinforcing in the cafeteria/commons space.
Electrical and Plumbing
Interior saw cutting for electrical and plumbing
Road Installation
Sub base for the road being install all the way around the west side of the site.
What's Next
- Outside: footings and foundations for the new gym.
- Inside: continuing structural reinforcement, saw cutting, and getting the underground work completed so the floors can be poured back in.
Canopy
Exterior Canopy work has begun.
Shoring
Shoring has been installed and an abatement contractor is currently working in the enclosure seen.

Second Floor
Ductwork, ceiling grid, and lights are making great progress on the second floor
Bathroom
Steel studs are up for the new bathroom entrance and will continue into next week
What's Next
- Elevator shaft demolition is complete on first and second floor, so demolition of the existing slab is ongoing and new concrete will begin.
Ductwork
Ductwork installation is ongoing in the main corridors and in each classroom.
Ceilings
Ceiling work is ongoing in each classroom and flooring has been removed in select classrooms.
