Wiggin Street Parent Update

Families,

It's still amazing to me how much happens at Wiggin Street on a daily basis, and I can't even capture it all. Our 2nd and 3rd grade students went to the Memorial Theater to see Matilda Jr., and we are so proud of our current and former students that performed. If you get a chance, check it out this weekend!

Our Peer Mediators started this week helping with small problems on the playground. Some even went into classes to explain their role. These students volunteer to help our school be a safer place, and we so appreciate their leadership!

Graham and Isabel explained their role in both kindergarten classes this week.

3rd grade students and Kindergarteners have been planning for and teaching lessons to each other using Second Step SEL lessons. Today the Kindergarten talked about following directions and the body parts you use to do so. Then they practiced by taking away one of those. They had to do a dance without hearing it and then without seeing it. They had to decide which was harder for them.

Each grade took turns teaching lessons to each other, and as you can see, they had a great time collaborating together!

5th Graders spent the last two weeks learning about the Japanese Contemporary Artist -- Yayoi Kusama. Some of her work relies heavily on the repeated use of polka dots. The 5th grade students created their own inspired version of Kusama's pumpkin and are proud to show off their masterpieces!

Thanks to all who supported the Mumkin Fundraiser. We were able to raise over $3,000! We will celebrate with all students and staff soon! Mumkin pick up will be on the playground October 5th from 3-6:00 pm.

Our next Friends of Wiggin Street meeting will be October 3rd at 5:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

3rd Graders will be performing at the Johnny Appleseed Festival downtown Mount Vernon on the evening of October 6th.
