COMMUNITY F2S TASTE TESTING IS OCT. 27
We will host a Farm 2 School community taste testing on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy cafeteria, 108 Elizabeth St., from 5-7 p.m. This is a come and go event and our families are invited to attend. During the event, you will be able to sample several menu items (while they last) and learn more about our Farm 2 School initiative. As you might recall, we have received a United States Department of Agriculture Farm 2 School grant for the 2022-2023 school year. In partnership with the Northwest Tennessee Local Food Network in Martin, we are working this year to develop school and district Farm 2 School initiatives through the creation of a “Grow Cheatham” action plan. If you haven’t already done so, we are asking our families to take a short 3-minute Parent Survey. The link to the survey can be found here.
HARVEST OF THE MONTH CONTEST
As part of our Farm 2 School initiative, the Northwest Tennessee Local Food Network is sponsoring a Harvest of the Month poster contest. Students in Cheatham County in grades K-12 are invited to submit entries. Entries must be postmarked by Nov. 1. For complete details, please click here.
CLASS OF 2022 EDUCATION HALL OF FAME
We are excited about our Cheatham County Education Hall of Fame! Twelve distinguished Cheatham County educators will be inducted into our second class during a special program on Thursday, Oct. 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Cheatham County Central High School theatre. The public is invited to attend. To read more about the Hall of Fame, this year’s inductees and how to nominate an individual for future classes, click here.
RED RIBBON WEEK IS OCT. 23-31
Our schools are celebrating National Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-31. The week promotes the importance of living drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free lives. Students will take part in a variety of school activities and special-themed days encouraging them to be drug free. As always, we appreciate the support of the Cheatham County Community Enhancement Coalition, who works with our School Resource Officers to make this week a success each year.
WE'RE A TN ALL CORPS EXEMPLARY DISTRICT
We are proud to be recognized by the Tennessee Department of Education as an exemplary school district for the strategic use of initial grant funding from Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding, or ESSER 3.0, for the TN ALL Corps program. The TN ALL Corps models the use of high-dosage, low-ratio tutoring to increase student achievement, including small groups (1:3 ratios in grades 1-5, 1:4 ratios in grades 6-8) meeting two to three times per week. This model helps students accelerate their learning in an individualized manner and focuses on scaffolding academic content so students can access new learning, while building upon their knowledge and skills base. Also, our district was recently featured in a Wall Street Journal article, which highlighted the use of our TN ALL Corps program.
DISTRICT WORKING ON UNIFIED DESIGNATION
In our new five-year plan, one of the goals is to achieve designation as a Unified Champion School District. Each of our schools have submitted their applications to become a Special Olympics Unified Champion School. A Unified Champion School is a comprehensive 3-component model that combines Unified Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership and Whole School Engagement to create school and community climates of acceptance and inclusion. We are moving forward in the process to become the first Unified Champion School District in the state of Tennessee. To learn more about Unified Champion Schools, please click here.
HHS SENIOR RECEIVES TSBA AWARD
Calli Copeland, a senior at Harpeth High School, received the Tennessee School Boards Association’s Student Recognition Award for the Mid-Cumberland region. Copeland was presented with the award on Sept. 29 at the TSBA Fall District meeting for the Mid-Cumberland region at Centennial High School. The Student Recognition Award recognizes students from across the state who have distinguished themselves in academics, community leadership and engagement. One student is selected from each region in the state. Copeland has served as the HHS class president for three years and is the president of the school’s Unified Club. She’s also a member of the HHS volleyball team.
A.O. SMITH CONTINUES TO SUPPORT DISTRICT
Before our fall break, engineering, automotive and STEM students from Cheatham County Central High School, Sycamore High School and Harpeth High School enjoyed touring A.O. Smith in Ashland City as part of the company’s Manufacturing Day. The students learned about the daily operations of Cheatham County’s largest manufacturer. During the Manufacturing Day, A.O. Smith made a generous donation to our district. The money will be used to support our annual STEAM competition and Civics Bee, which will both be held in the spring.
