Matanzas High School Weekly Update
November 24, 2023
Student ID Card Reminder
Parents and legal guardians, please check with your students to ensure that they have their Matanzas High School Student ID card and that they are bringing it to school with them every day. MHS will be checking for IDs throughout the day this upcoming week and students who do not have an ID will be required to go to the media center to obtain a new ID.
All students were given an ID during the first week of school and most students were issued a second ID after school pictures were taken this year. Students may also carry a Matanzas High School ID card from a previous school year, if they have one. Any student who loses their ID must visit the media center before school or during school to obtain a new ID. The cost of a replacement ID is $5 which will be added to student's accounts and will be required to be paid (along with any cafeteria fees, library fees, etc.) prior to purchasing dance tickets or prior to graduation.
Students are required to scan their ID to check in to school tardy, to get meals in the cafeteria and to board the bus. Our CafeEdu workers want to ensure that all of our students are able to eat breakfast and lunch and are working with all of our students, but we have an excessive number of students each day not bringing their ID to the cafeteria serving line. Though breakfast and lunch is free for all Flagler Schools students this year, the district is responsible for accounting for all meals served, which is why we have the ID-barcode scanners in the lines.

MHS Guidance Update
10th Grade Guidance Presentation Info
On November 16th and 17th, the MHS School Counseling Team visited 10th Grade English classrooms to conduct a college and career preparation lesson. Students were provided with tools, tips, and assessment inventories to plan for life after high school. Our goal was for students to learn more about themselves, their aptitudes, and learn about school and community resources available to assist them in preparing for their future aspirations.
We also put together a packet of resources for the students including career, college, and scholarship search engines, planning timelines, community service opportunities, graduation requirements, state testing requirements and concordant scores, and personality and career interest inventories among other helpful items.
As a follow up, we have encouraged our sophomores to begin building their resume, start researching scholarship opportunities such as Raise.me, and utilize career interest inventories such as the O*Net Interest Profiler.
Sophomores should continue to do the following:
- Check the MHS Pirates website (MHSPirates.com) for daily announcements, news, important dates, and other information
- Continue working towards good grades, taking advantage of test retake opportunities, using organization tools, and asking for help when needed
- Attend the MHS free tutoring opportunity on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 2:50-4:20pm (late bus provided for students that live in the MHS zone)
- Engage in MHS clubs, activities, athletics and other opportunities
- Accumulate community service hours and/or paid work hours to work towards looking marketable for scholarships and other programs and opportunities
- Utilize college/career planning resources such as Floridashines.org and MyNextMove.org to begin planning for your future plan, career and post secondary plans
We are looking forward to continued work with our sophomores and supporting them throughout their high school career!
