Welcome to the Summer Term!
25th April 2023
I cannot believe that a week has gone by since we returned to school and it's even harder to believe we're heading into the Summer term. How did that happen?! The first week back was even busier than usual with a fantastic trip to the Farm and Country Fair. The children and staff all behaved themselves beautifully and no livestock were injured or stolen.
'It was fun. I liked being with all of my friends. My favourite thing was the tractor ride.'
Eloise Y3
'The country fair was really exciting and I loved being there. My favourite part was when we got to stroke the horses. '
Izzy Y4
'I loved the sheep show. The last sheep was being being crazy and the man had to ride it to slow it down! The tractor ride was my favourite and Stanley made me laugh!'
Jack Y2
'My favourite part was stroking all of the animals because they were sometimes rough and sometimes fluffy. The sheep show was funny because the man showed us how to shear a sheep and the sheep did a karate kick!'
Joseph Y3
Monday mile - 18 miles achieved this week towards our 13,910 mile, virtual hike. We're travelling from Mongolia to Cape Town following the longest road in the world. It might take a few more weeks...

Fete poster competition - Please encourage your child to enter the poster competition for the fete. The paper and instructions came home, with your child, last week.
Advance notice for September - change to After School Club pick up time.
Over the years, we have tried many ways of running the after school clubs and our current method (our own staff) is definitely our preferred option, rather than using external providers. We find that this gives a guaranteed quality of provision and the consistency of a known adult is good for our pupils. For this to continue, clubs will need to finish at 4.30 pm, from September, to allow teachers to attend after school meetings. Additionally, we have noticed that many of the children are tired by 4.30 and should, ideally be heading home. We are aware that some families need the clubs for wraparound childcare and we hope that the 30 minute difference will not affect you adversely.
Our only other option is to return to using external providers but this will increase the cost significantly and we are reluctant to do this.
If you use the clubs for childcare and have any concerns about the earlier end time from September, please let me know.

Is My Child Too Ill for School? - NHS advice
We are very keen to have children attending school if they are well enough. Please have a look at this NHS advice if you are unsure.
Absence reporting process - including current NHS COVID isolation guidance
If your child is absent from school please ring into the school office giving the reason for the absence ('unwell' is not sufficient), please do not email for absence. If you need to, leave a voicemail.
The School must be notified by the parent/carer of the absent pupil on the first day of absence AND on every day of absence thereafter, before the register is closed. If a telephone call is not received, the school will contact parents/carers directly.
Please see the Attendance Policy for more information.
If you suspect or know that your child has COVID, the NHS guidance for children now states:
"If a child or young person aged 18 or under tests positive for COVID-19, they should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days. This starts from the day after they did the test.
Children and young people tend to be infectious to others for less time than adults. If they’re well and do not have a temperature after 3 days, there’s a much lower risk that they’ll pass on COVID-19 to others."
Game and Country Fair - 22nd/23rd April

Allergy Awareness
We are an allergy aware school and would like to remind all families that there may be pupils in school with a peanut allergy. If a child with a peanut allergy comes into contact with peanuts, or with a pupil who has eaten peanuts, then this could lead to an anaphylactic reaction. Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening reaction to a trigger such as an allergy.
Because of this the school cannot accept products containing peanuts to be provided in lunch boxes or for eating at other times.
