Dear OUSD Community,
For the first time since November, Orange County has officially returned to the less restrictive red tier of the state’s COVID-19 monitoring system. Red indicates substantial transmission rather than widespread. This encouraging adjustment means that many local businesses and activities in Orange County can resume operations or expand their capacity. The County of Orange posted this news release with more information.
With COVID-19 case rates and hospitalizations declining across the state, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has allowed outdoor high- and moderate-risk sports competitions to occur, given certain parameters are met. Due to constraints on spectators currently in place, we are pleased to announce that we will be live-streaming our varsity football games at Fred Kelly on the OUSD YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/OrangeUnifiedCA. Tonight, El Modena is playing El Dorado, with a 7:00 PM kickoff time, and Villa Park will play Brea Olinda on Saturday at 3:00 PM. It is very exciting to see our athletes back on the field at our beautiful new stadium.
Finally, the state has updated its school reopening maps on the Safe Schools for All Hub to include outbreak data by school district. You can view the data for public schools by selecting a specific district on the Safe Schools Reopening Map, which includes reported outbreaks since January 1, 2021. Additionally, school-specific data for our district is available on the OUSD COVID-19 Dashboard.
Thank you for continuing to wear a mask, engage in social distancing, and follow public health guidelines so we can move towards ending the school year with fewer limitations.
Warmest Regards,
Gunn Marie Hansen, Ph.D.

She is also a part of the elite National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation. Dagny has completed an astounding 50 plus units at the community college via the dual enrollment program. Dagny plans to attend USC with her scholarship agreement and will major in Computer Science. Congratulations, Dagny Parayao!
At Running Springs Elementary, the Primary Years Program’s curricular continuum is centered around six transdisciplinary themes based on shared human commonalities that are considered essential in the context of an international education: who we are, where we are in place and time, how we express ourselves, how the world works, how we organize ourselves, and sharing the planet. Students inquire into and learn about these globally significant concepts through individual units of inquiry that address a central idea relevant to the particular transdisciplinary theme being explored.
Under the theme “Who We Are,” two fourth-graders in Mrs. Morrissey’s class studying early California settlements created a Google slide presentation to connect the related concepts of conflict, population borders, religion, traditions, and settlements. Claire Greenlee and Sarah Green completed and presented a fifteen-slide presentation that included student reflection and an opportunity to share unanswered questions. This project served as an engaging culminating activity where students could connect concepts and demonstrate attributes of the IB learner profile.
