Trussville City Schools - Teacher Spotlight
Meet Danny Moore, Music Teacher at Magnolia Elementary
College: Jacksonville State University and Colorado State University
Years of Service in Education: This is my 2nd full year of teaching
Hobbies/Interests: I like to hike, fish, camp, travel, barbecue, play music, and spend time with my wife, Shannon.
Family: My wife, Shannon, is originally from Fresno, California, and is a band director in Trussville. We met in grad school at Colorado State University. My mother, Barbi, and father, Chris, are both retired. I have a sister name Christa, a civil engineer who works in South Africa.
Fun Fact: Growing up, I got to hang our with lots of famous drummers from around the world. My father was in charge of the Alabama chapter of the Percussive Arts Society for many years. Some drummers include Steve Smith (Journey), Todd Sucherman (Styx), Greg Bissonette (Toto & Ringo Star's Allstar Band), Peter Erskine (Maynard Ferguson & Weather Report), Chris Fryar (Zac Brown Band), Tony Royster (Katy Perry & Jay Z), and Chester Thompson (Phil Collins & Genesis).
Favorite Thing About Magnolia: I love how friendly our teachers and staff are at Magnolia. Our school truly feels like a family, and we all work together to create a wonderful and positive environment for our Trussville students.
Mrs. Lutz's Third Graders at Paine Elementary Present Black History Projects
Our third graders have been hard at work researching famous African Americans and their positive impact to celebrate Black History Month.
Students collaboratively worked together by using multiple resources for research, then created a poster including many text features. Students included a timeline sequencing the important events in the person’s life, text boxes, photographs, and captions. Then students wrote an informational essay on the person they researched. Finally, students presented their work in front of their peers.
Congratulations to HTHS Sophomore Art Student Rylee Millard for winning a local Comic Contest hosted by Create Birmingham. She won in the 13-16 category for the Month of February. The month's theme was "A Story of Waiting". The contest is hosted each month and open to all Jefferson County students and even comes with a $50 cash prize. Great work, Rylee!
HTMS Students Participate in Girls in Engineering Day
HTMS students had the opportunity to participate in this year's "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" at the McWane Science Center. These 18 8th grade girls were invited to compete in design challenges, explore booths set up by sponsors, watch the Future City movie in the IMAX theater, eat lunch, win door prizes, and so much more!
Cahaba Students Share Black History Essays
During Black History month, students are invited to share an essay, report, poem or any original work about an African American. Students have worked very hard on their pieces and eagerly shared their knowledge with the rest of the school during morning announcements. Thank you students for helping us celebrate Black American achievements and contributions!
TCS Child Nutrition Attends State Conference
Trussville City Schools CNP staff immersed themselves in a dynamic weekend at the Alabama School Nutrition Conference. Exploring the latest innovations in kitchen equipment and savoring samples of upcoming food trends, they gained valuable insights to enhance our school nutrition program. This provided a platform for networking, learning and there was even a handbag raffle to support the ASNA scholarship fund. They had the opportunity to choose from over 20 continuing education classes at this Mardi Gras themed conference.

Magnolia Students Share Acts of Kindness
In recognition of Random Acts of Kindness Week, students in Mrs. Cindy Burns' first grade class made watercolor bookmarks to spread the gift of kindness to students visiting the library.
TCS Loves Ms. Candice
Thursday was a victory celebration at CES for Candice Tillman, one of our CNP workers. Her celebration marked her last radiation treatment and the end of a year-long fight against breast cancer! Through the diagnosis, surgeries, chemo treatments, and radiation, Candice credits the grace and goodness of God, and the love of family and friends with her healing. "The cards, meals, encouragement, and tremendous amount of love from my TCS family have meant the world to me. I am so blessed to be back in the kitchen at CES, and to celebrate with jokes and laughter with the huge group of loved ones in the dining room!"
Cahaba Students Focus on Kindness
Students in counseling class this week talked about our word of the month...Kindness! We started our day by reading a story entitled "The Juice Box Bully" by Bob Sornson and Maria Dismondy. The story helps us understand that we don't always know everyone's story, and it helps to teach empathy. Students were also excited to watch a short video on how kindness can affect others.
After the story, we looked at different scenarios that we might encounter in our own lives, and we discussed the best way to respond with kindness, loyalty, understanding, and honesty. The students then played a game called "rolling with kindness". They rolled the dice and answered questions that corresponded with the number they rolled. Some examples of questions were, "How could you show kindness to someone you don't know?" and "How can you show kindness to someone today?"

The Power of A Word
Taking time to build relationships among Magnolia family members matters to Dr. Phyllis Faust, principal. At a recent faculty meeting, Magnolia family members participated in an ice cream social hosted by the first-grade team as well as an enjoyable art activity led by Mrs. Jessica McClurg, art teacher. Dr. Faust asked all Magnolia family members to think of a word that they would like to focus on this year. Then, everyone created abstract art pieces that reflected their unique words. These visuals will be placed in the hallway for our students to see and learn about throughout the year.
