Not Feeling Well - Follow These Guidelines
Recently we have noticed a marked increase in ‘flu-like' symptoms and documented influenza cases (both A and B). See symptoms below. If it is a documented flu case, please let the school nurse csegal@d103.org know immediately. Review the CDC flu guidelines for more detail.
You will also need to inform the school through the absence line email dw_attendance@d103.org for each day your student is sick.
To help prevent the spread of illness, we would like to give you some guidelines to help with your decision on whether or not to send your child to school. We ask that you keep your child home if they:
- Have a fever of 100.4 (oral) degrees or higher.
Have cramps and or vomiting.
Have a sore throat with fever.
Have a persistent cough (dry or productive).
Have diarrhea (three or more episodes in 24 hrs).
Have a rash or open and draining sores.
Have symptoms that prevent them from participating in school, such as:
Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite.
Headaches, body aches, earaches.
Severe sore throat (could be strep-throat even without fever. Other symptoms of strep throat in children are headache and stomach upset. Contact your pediatrician to assess or diagnosis strep throat.)
Please review the Lake County Health Department guidelines on when to return to school.
Students Interview Author
Student Journalists: Lu King, Milt King, and Eva Narula
Award-winning author Jennifer Nielsen visited Daniel Wright in early October. She gave presentations on finding inspiration to sixth- and seventh-grade students. She also held a smaller “Writers Workshop” with students from all grades. She spoke with students Lu King, Milt King, and Eva Narula about her day at the school and her writing career. She described the Daniel Wright students she spoke to during her presentations as “some of the finest young students I have ever had the privilege to speak to.” Mrs. Nielsen said that due to “an extraordinary librarian” and “great teachers“ this was a “success event”. Her presentations were empowering to the young writers and readers in the school.
When Mrs. Nielsen first started writing she was told she would never be published, but progressed due to her belief in herself. As a genre defying author, she has also faced people telling her that kids who liked her fantasy books would not like her historical fiction material. Nevertheless, they were proved wrong as she flourished with entertaining and extremely popular novels. Her presentations instructed students to be the one that people will talk about, and be the one who makes a difference in people’s lives.
Jennifer Nielsen provided incredible insight to the student and staff body about following your passions and reaching your full potential. It was riveting and an all around incredible experience for students of every grade.
