Happy 100th Day of School!
Dear La Ballona Community,
Tomorrow is our 100th Day of school! What a year it has been for us all. Here are a few reminders for us all about various topics.
- If you are struggling with daily child care, STAR is running at full capacity and there are still openings in our STAR after school care program. Children receive free after school care Monday- Friday. Please email cynthiap@starinc.org if you are interested.
- Please check your child's backpack daily. There are important notices for families to review. Also, it provides you with a good pulse of what's happening in your child's school life.
- Please remind your children that they should not bring any toys to school. This includes game cards such as Pokemon.
- Please remember that our children learn healthy food habits very young. We want our children to learn that food is fuel to furnish our bodies with nutrients. Bringing junk food is against our policy.
- Be sure you email rosyreyes@ccusd.org to provide the reason for any absence. Emails are preferred, but you may also call.
- Be sure to ask your child about Monday's Lunar New Year Assembly. Thank you to the PTA for bringing this to our students.
- Below is last Wednesday's student assembly

A Message from Superintendent Tran
Dear CCUSD Community,
Due to the sudden and emergency circumstances that compelled CCUSD to close schools for three days, CCUSD is in contact with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and the California Department of Education (CDE) to seek a waiver from having to make up those days.
- If the request is approved, our calendar will remain the same as originally planned.
- If the request is not granted, CCUSD will add the three days to the calendar. After consultation with union leadership, and in recognition of plans already in place, those three days will not be made up during Spring Break.
We recognize that families are also busy planning their summer schedule and hope to have an answer regarding CCUSD's waiver request soon. I appreciate your patience as we work through the waiver process.
Sincerely,
Quoc Tran, Superintendent
Atentamente,
Quoc Tran, Superintendente

Lions' Pride Run (Jogathon) - NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The Lions Pride Run, our biggest fundraiser of the year, is starting now and we need all the help we can get. Students are lacing up their shoes in preparation and we need parent support as soon as possible. Please contact Rocio Alvarez - webadmin@laballonapta.org if you can help organize this amazing fundraiser. Thank you for your continued support throughout the year.
ANNUAL FUNDRAISING DRIVE (still going strong)
We are currently at $71,000, over half way to our yearly goal of raising $120,000 (approx $300/child)! Fantastic job everyone so far.
For this year's programs and supplies, we're in need of community support. Every donation pushes us closer to our goal; allowing us to create a platform for our students to access educational opportunities, tools and experiences the school might not otherwise be able to afford.
Ways to donate and help out:
Go to bit.ly/laballona and donate what you can!
By check, make payable to "La Ballona PTA" and return in an envelope to your classroom teacher.
Share this flyer with your friends, family, and local businesses!
Monthly donation option is available at https://laballonapta.org/donate
Ask your company if they offer matching gifts for employees
