Transportation Updates

A message from the Director of Transportation
In order to improve efficiencies and help with timely arrivals, we did make several adjustments this school year to our routing (see FAQs below). I wanted to personally thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust to these necessary changes.
Please note, the system we use for transportation routes is currently down (impacting over 400 school districts nationwide). We are asking families to be patient as we are unable to access routes and look at individual concerns at this moment. We will, however, work through each question or concern as soon as we are able.
As a reminder, the first week of school is always a challenge for our Transportation Department as drivers learn new routes and take extra time meeting the students on their bus and ensuring they get safely to their proper destination. Most buses will be running late the first week, so please be patient as our drivers familiarize themselves with their routes and the students in their care.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. We look forward to another great year in the WSD!

Transportation FAQs
This summer, we sent a newsletter to families outlining an upcoming change for some of our secondary-level students and their bus stop locations. In order to help improve efficiencies, some middle and high school bus stop locations may have been consolidated and may increase from a maximum distance of 2/10 of a mile from a student's home to 5/10 mile from their home. This will result in some students having to walk a little farther to get to their bus stop, but will allow buses to make fewer stops across the District and will help with timely arrivals.
I do not feel the updated bus stop location is safe. Who do I contact?
Safety-related concerns should be directed to Kim Boix, director of transportation, at 636.327.3860 x 25324 or kimberlyboix@wsdr4.org.
Why are there different pick-up/drop-off times for some high school and middle school students who are at the same stop?
Some (not all) routes at the secondary level will now pick up high school students first and then loop back and pick up middle school students. This is a strategy we used last year out of necessity on certain routes to increase efficiencies and help with timely arrivals. We are now formally implementing this technique on several routes so families know what to expect and are able to plan ahead.
My kid will not ride the bus, OR my kid needs to ride the bus and doesn’t have a route.
Contact your child’s school. They will be able to update whether your child is or is not a bus rider in our system (for those who are eligible).
I didn’t receive my child’s bus information. Who do I contact?
We apologize for the inconvenience! Contact your child’s school, and they can help!
What time should my student be at the bus stop in the morning?
Please ask your child to be outside at their bus stop at least five minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time.
What can we expect during the first few weeks of school?
We do anticipate bus delays for the first couple of weeks of school each year as our drivers and students get comfortable with their routes. We appreciate your flexibility! As the Transportation Department settles into the school year, pick-up and drop-off times for students may change. The Transportation Department will notify you if your child's bus route adjustment is significant.
