Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Student/Family Activity
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Student/Family Activity
Every January, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birthday and the hope he's brought to millions of people over the years. We are asking the students/families to do the following to honor him:
1. Students/families look up a quote of Martin Luther King Jr.
2. Students/families write it on a piece of paper
3. Students/families take a picture with the quote to share with Mr. Chabola, email: caseychabola@ccusd.org
4. Students/families post the quote in their window for others to see that are out walking (may be getting their physical fitness minutes)
5. Bonus for 4th and 5th grade students; share with Mr. Chabola email: caseychabola@ccusd.org What aspects of MLK's personality, cause, etc are characteristics that you see in yourselves or are working towards?

Return of the drop off lane on Irving- Front of School
- Drop-off Lane- A Drop-off lane will be available on Irving starting on January 10th (day we return from Winter break). Drivers are encouraged to pull as far forward in the drop-off lane as possible. Students ONLY will exit the car and walk onto campus.
VALET DROP-OFF COORDINATOR:
In Years past we had a highly successful school valet drop-off program. We are currently in the process of trying to get the program up and running again...And We Need A Coordinator! This program can be organized a number of ways, the possibilities are endless. The coordinator does not need to be present every morning, it can be coordinated from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Mr. Chabola or Mr. Raber (310-842-4338 or caseychabola@ccusd.org or brianraber@ccusd.org or in the school office).
- Parking- I know it is difficult to find parking around Lin Howe. We recommend parents either walk/scoot/ride, park a couple of blocks away and walk the couple of blocks, or use the drop off lane. Please do not park in the teacher/staff parking lots. When parents park in these lots, teachers and staff do not have available parking and as a result, can be late or may not be able to leave. This causes a negative impact on our students' learning.

Join January's Fitness Challenge
Sea Dragon New Year's Monthly Fitness Challenge
We are already at 34 participants, including 12 staff members!!
Staff members include:
Mr. Chabola
Mr. Raber
Nurse Tim
Nurse Amy
Ms. Leslie and Ms. Veronica
Ms. Schnauss
Mr. Myers
Ms. Kirchhoff
As we kick off the new year I am hoping we can work together as a community to work on our physical well being. This will be a challenge to accumulate as many active minutes each month for students, staff, and family members.
- What's the Goal- The goals for each month will be 400 minutes for a Bronze Award, 600 minutes for a Silver Award, and 800 or more minutes for a Gold Award.
- How will it work?? You will REGISTER HERE https://forms.gle/ya93pUB4uQRqxQfr9
Once we have received the information below we will share the spreadsheet for you to enter your active time next to your nickname.
- How do I Track time?-- You can track your time that you take a walk, bike ride, jog, rowing etc.
If you or your student participates in a sport, dance, or other active activity, the activity will count for 30 minutes for that day regardless of the full time of the event. (example soccer practice equals 30 minutes, dance lessons equals 30 minutes)
Walking, biking, scooting to school from greater than 3 blocks equals 10 minutes (encouraging our three block challenge)
- Push Up/Sit Up challenge?-- The goal would be to complete your daily number times 25. If you can do 3 push ups/sit ups, your goal for the month would be 75. Feel free to start with modified push ups, with knees on the floor.
My name, times, and numbers will be at the top of the spreadsheet. If you have a Peloton you can follow me at #cclaxcoach
The top 5 students from TK-2 and 3rd-5th will earn lunch with the principal each month.

4th and 5th Grade Students
We are going to open up a new round of game coordinators starting next Monday. 4th grade will take care of the set-up after their snack recess and 5th grade will break down at the end of their lunch recess.
I will drop off applications tomorrow for all students who are interested. Those who apply must be committed to setting and/or breaking down games everyday.
Two students per class will be selected. Applications should be turned in to Mr. Raber's office no later than Friday.
Big THANK YOU to Mr. Acosta for helping to find an iPad for filming and downloading the video!!!

- 1st-5th will get picked up from glass doors by main office. Adults picking up students will line up in the designated area/line. Please be ready to provide your student(s) name AND Teacher. It could be helpful to have your student(s) name and teacher written on an index card to help staff input the information.
- Office staff will send a note to the classrooms for the students to make their way down. We ask that families step to the side to wait for their students. We need to ensure we have a clear path for students to exit.
