What a week...JV played a combined total of 7 games this week, and Varsity played a combined total of 8 games as well. Their resiliency this week has been astounding!
Congrats are in order for Varsity this weekend. Tyra won the goalie skills competition! She continued the trend Bella set last weekend in the tournament. Grimm won the dribbling skills competition! After 5 games yesterday, being there from 7am until 8pm, Varsity won the Helix Tournament in sudden victory shootouts against University City. We played them earlier that morning in pool play and tied, but the finals game was some of the most intense and fluid hockey I've seen this group play. The UC coaches talked to me after the game and said the difference was night and day from our performance that same morning. This is the second year in a row Poway has won the Varsity Tournament - everyone contributed to this legacy win, including our new lucky lizard friend Eddie! I'm so proud of everyone this weekend, and the tournament organizers recognized how amazing this group is when handing over the first place medals. I know how special this group is but it means so much that others see it too.
We are heading into our last week of the regular season. Our final away game is against Valley Center, bus information time is down below. I highly encourage taking the bus as it is a far drive.
Senior Night is this Friday! Please make sure we stay to watch our seniors play their last home league game against Mission Vista. They have contributed so many hours and sacrificed over the last 4 years to be a part of this program, and we want to honor them in the best way possible - by cheering our heads off.
There is a Halloween practice this year on Monday, October 30th. Please show up in costume that you can wear while playing hockey (group costumes are encouraged) as this will be the last JV practice of the 2023 season. We plan to have this be a fun practice to celebrate all your hard work during the regular season.
Once I receive final rankings from CIF, I will let everyone know game times and opponents. The "skeleton" schedule for open division is as follows:
Tuesday, November 7th - Open Division Quarterfinals (hosted at the higher seed)
Thursday, November 9th - Open Division Semifinals (hosted at the higher seed)
Friday, November 11th - CIF Finals (hosted at La Jolla High School)
Practices after 10/31 will be geared towards getting us ready for our CIF games.
