October Newsletter: October 1, 2023
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:
This October brings with it cooler fall weather, beautiful fall colors, and a long month with no days off for students. It’s a great month for establishing and reinforcing routines. October means that many programs are underway to enhance and support our students’ education at Boulder Creek. Students will begin trimester testing this month and work hard to finish the first trimester strong in their classes. You can help at home by encouraging your child to do his/her best while providing a quiet workspace for homework/studying, healthy breakfasts, and a regular routine. Together we can maintain optimal environments for successful learning.
As I mentioned, first-trimester assessments will take place this month. Our goal is to put a big emphasis on the importance of students focusing and doing their very best on the trimester assessment(s). These tests tell us what each student’s needs are academically and drive the teachers’ instruction at that point. Please partner with us by encouraging your child to do his/her best during testing this month.
Boulder Creek, along with schools across the state, will be recognizing October 16th through the 20th as Digital Citizenship Week. This event is one of many efforts to build capacity for students and families to make safe, smart, and ethical decisions in the digital world. Digital Citizenship Week is recognized on the third week of October each year. This year our students will be participating in Digital Citizenship lessons and activities throughout the week.
Besides testing and Digital Citizenship, we end the month with a celebratory week. October 30th - November 3rd is Red Ribbon and Spirit Week at Boulder Creek. We will hold Red Ribbon Week activities, and each day will mark a different schoolwide dress-up day.
I hope to see you all at the Boulder Bash on Friday, October 2oth. We encourage costumes for all at Boulder Bash. Thank you for your continued support, Boulder Creek Families!
Sincerely,
Tina Croes
SCHOOL CULTURE AND CLIMATE
Here are some highlights of a few things going on at Boulder Creek to foster and support positive school culture and climate ...
Administrator 4th-8th Grade Classroom School Culture and Climate Presentations
At the end of September, administrators began classroom visits/presentations in all 4th-8th grade classes. Administrators will complete these presentations over the next few weeks. Some of the topics included are:
- The power of positive relationships
- The power of words and respect
- Acceptance of others
- Peer conflicts
The focus on school culture and climate has been extremely positive and interactive with our students.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
It's Digital Citizenship Month!
We have Parent Engagement opportunities as well. There will be a $25 GIFT CARD for any family who attends our Parenting In A Digital World training this month! Join us for great info and tips from tech experts on navigating the challenges of raising children in the digital age. Take a look at the flyer for more information!
PARENT CLUB 2023-2024
Boulder Bash is Back!
At the request of many families and staff members, we have decided to change our annual Boulder Bash from a Saturday to a Friday evening this school year. We hope everyone will join us for Boulder Creek’s annual Boulder Bash on Friday, October 20th. Parent Club is accepting candy donations for the Boulder Bash in exchange for tickets for your kids. Please send bagged Halloween candy to your child’s classroom teacher, and Boulder Bash tickets will be sent home with your child in return. Or, you can bring the candy directly into the school office in exchange for tickets on the spot. Five tickets will be given for donating under three pounds of candy and ten tickets for donating over three pounds. In addition, Kindergarten puts on the cakewalk each year. They, too, are looking for store-bought baked goods (cookies, cupcakes, etc.) for the Boulder Bash. They can be delivered to a Kindergarten room on Friday, October 20th before, during, or after school. Boulder Bash takes place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday the 20th. We hope to see you there.
Boulder Bash Volunteers Needed!
Sundial Riffle Raffle (Formerly known as the Ducky Derby)
Up to 100% of the money raised returns to Boulder Creek School to fund classroom expenses and activities. This is a primary source of funding for the year.
Not just another Raffle! The Redding East Rotary sponsors this raffle drawing each year to raise funds for substance abuse prevention programs and youth development.
Students sell the tickets and each participating school receives up to 100% of the proceeds from the ticket sales, making it the most successful school fundraiser ever!
Each salmon ticket costs $5.00, and multiple salmon can be purchased on one ticket number.
Riffle Raffle winners will be announced on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Sundial Bridge event from 11:00 to 3:00.
2023 Riffle Raffle Prizes:
1st - $10,000 cash
2nd - Houseboat Vacation from Holiday Harbor (16-sleeper houseboat on Shasta Lake)
3rd - Giants Baseball Game Weekend for 4 with VIP parking
4th - River Rafting Trip for 6 people
5th - Silver Blue Topaz Bracelet
6th - Harley Davidson Glass Decanter
The prizes in this fundraiser are desired by many near and far. Anyone from anywhere can win! That makes selling to friends and family much easier for our students, and they don't have to go door-to-door. We encourage our students to create their own sales messages to friends and family members. Be sure to include how their class may be using the funds.
2023 Boulder Creek Top-selling Student Prizes:
Sponsored by Parent Club
1st - $75 Gift Card to Oasis Fun Center
2nd - $50 Gift Card to Cinemark
3rd - $25 Gift Card to Jamba Juice
POPSICLE PARTY
Sponsored by Parent Club
The top 3 selling classrooms earn a Popsicle party for their class. Some classrooms have their own selling incentives as well.
TOP BOULDER CREEK STUDENT SELLER
The top-selling student at Boulder Creek will have the opportunity to attend the Rotary Luncheon with the principal to pick up the check for Boulder Creek!
Students should submit their sold ticket stubs and matching money at least once per week by Thursday, especially if they want to check out more tickets. The final date to turn in Pledge Forms/Money will be Friday, Oct. 13th.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This fundraiser supports classrooms with funds for science activities, art, field trips, and so much more. It also supports funds for the Parent Club to help support fun activities here at Boulder Creek all year long.
Boulder Creek has always been one of the top-selling schools with this community fundraiser. Help us reach the top again this year! Remember, winners can be from out of the area, so students can sell to family and friends all over.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
NO FOOD DELIVERIES AT SCHOOL
Unfortunately, we will not be able to allow paid delivery services such as Doordash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, Instacart, etc. to drop items (food/drink) for students. This has happened a few times and has proven to be disruptive to the school environment. Items have been ordered that we do not allow on campus, as well as items ordered for friends. This can be problematic when it comes to the risks related to potential food allergies, etc. All deliveries will be denied or held in the Boulder Creek Office until school is dismissed for the day. Boulder Creek is not responsible for any loss of cost or food.
Parents delivering lunch for their children only or for a classroom party (such as a pizza party) is still acceptable.
Boulder Creek offers a FREE breakfast and lunch to all students. Breakfast is available 30 minutes prior to the first bell, and lunch is available during your students' scheduled lunch.
Thank you for your understanding.
PARENT PORTAL
All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning-of-the-year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
Click HERE for the link to the parent portal. If you cannot log-in successfully, please call our school's office at 224-4140. Be sure to keep your log-in information in a safe but accessible place.
