Colts Chronicle
A Cimarron Middle School community communication
Note From the Front Office
Unfortunately, due to IT issues at the district level, 2nd semester/3rd quarter fees are not able to be assessed until after Feb. 6th.
Legend will also have an online auction that will go live on Thursday, 1/25 at 8:00am and will go through Sunday, February 4th at 8:00pm. There are some fun items that your community might enjoy like gift baskets, a kids birthday party at Momentum, concert tickets, gift cards, and more! Here is the link to the auction.
Cimarron is excited to bring a new competition this year to raise money for our Wish Week kid. Two winning teachers will be rewarded a prize. Students can bring in money to give to their teachers. The two teachers with the most money will win! Our goal as a school is to raise at least $10,000 for the Make-a Wish foundation.

Selecting Electives for Next Year
Soon students will receive & review elective worksheets for the 24-25 school year during their Science class:
Current 6th graders on January 29 – due back to their Science teacher by February 2
Current 7th graders on February 7 - due back to their Science teacher by February 13
Please look over the elective form (linked down below) with your student and help them enter their elective requests online during the grade level elective selection window.
~ Choose carefully as there are NO schedule changes.
~ It is unlikely you will get all your first choices, so choose alternates carefully and in order of priority.
~ Requesting both semester Choir classes in your top choices could give you a year of choir. If you only want choir for one semester, only choose one choir class as a top choice.
~ Form MUST be filled out completely and have at least 8 separate electives listed, in order of priority (1-8). If the required number of choices is not provided, students may be scheduled in ANY available class.
~ Prior experience is required to sign up for Band, Orchestra, and Spanish 1B & II.
~ Students in Dimensions of Literacy will be automatically assigned, if the class is required, and will take the place of one elective period.
~ E-Media & Yearbook require an application and will only be assigned if the student is selected for the class. Do not number these classes. Please make sure you complete and turn in the separate application to be considered for these classes. Forms are available in the Counseling Office.
Please visit Important Forms & Links for the 24-25 Course Guides and Elective Form copy.
ALL elective forms are due back to your student’s Science teacher by the date noted above.

Please read the following State required immunization letter from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Did you know January is National Thank you Month?
Start the new year off on a grateful note by celebrating National Thank You Month in January! National Thank You Month encourages people to take the time to say thank you. Whether it be through words or small acts of kindness, showing gratitude not only makes others feel good, but it also has many benefits for our own well-being.
Ways that you and your family can celebrate the month together:
Start a family journal. Include every time you went the extra mile for someone, and they said thank you. You can also include when people did something for you, and then plan a creative way to say “thank you” to them.
Take turns at the dinner table in sharing who or what you are thankful for.
Write someone a thank you note, an email, or even a sticky note telling them you are thankful for them or something that they did for you.
Tell someone that you may have just met thank you for what they did. Sometimes a simple “thank you” can turn someone’s day around.
Start a good deeds chain. When someone does something nice for you, pay it forward and continue the chain.
Surprise someone with a “thank you” gift or gift of time

Attention to Mothers and Sons
An opportunity for moms and sons: The Young Men's Service League is a national nonprofit that fosters leadership and a love of service during the high school years.
We are establishing a brand new YMSL chapter here in Douglas County. We are hosting an informational session to share more about how the organization works. A few quick things about YMSL:
The organization was founded in 2001 in Texas.
There are over 150 chapters nationwide. Our new Douglas County chapter will be the fifth in Colorado.
YMSL requires young men to volunteer 20 hours per school year. They make it easy with national partnerships like Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald House. 10 hours each year will be service performed as mother and son. YMSL service hours can count towards Douglas County School District's requirements!
YMSL looks awesome on a college application!
