Fall Quarter Newsletter

Time does fly, especially on a quarter system. The sisters at University of Chicago chapter are proud of presenting to you our accomplishments during this quarter. We hope to pass on some warmth to all our sisters out there and wish you best of luck for the rest of the year!

Our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, Beyond Pink, consisted of one week of fun activities aimed at promoting breast cancer awareness around campus, including spicy food eating competition, pink Zumba, Roti and Chipotle fundraisers, date auction, raffle tickets sale, etc. All proceeds from the event go to our official partner, Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

This year, we had over 40 sponsors all around Chicago. Throughout the campaign, we had more than 700 students and 14 student organizations participate in our various events, raising $2947 in total for the campaign. This year's BCA was very successful, although we definitely have many improvements to make for next year's campaign.

Huge shoutout to our VP Service Lydia "psylocke" Sum for planning a successful BCA campaign and to all the sisters for their energy and commitment!

This quarter we successfully crossed our Fall 2017 class, Mu Moonstones. On December 1st, the girls had their installs and officially presented themselves to the chapter for the first time. We are very proud of these 6 girls and can't wait to see what they will bring to our chapter!

On October 15th, we gathered together after a long summer and were super excited to see each other again. By practicing our dance and national stroll together, we formed close bonds and had an exciting kickoff to the quarter. Shoutout to Sisterhood Chair Lucy "Eirene" Wang for organizing and Performance Chair Jocelyn "Bubbles" Huang for teaching the dance!

On October 27th - 29th, we went to the Midwest Sisterhood Rally organized by the University of Wisconsin, Madison Associate Chapter, and it was absolutely amazing. We had so much fun getting to know our sisters across the Midwest as well as devouring the cheese :) Many thanks to the University of Wisconsin, Madison Associate Chapter for hosting us!

On November 8th, we hosted a campus-wide Chinese buns fundraiser and raised $228.85 in total for our chapter. Huge shoutout to Carol "Wonderland" Wang for organizing a successful fundraiser!

On November 28th, we gave back to the UChicago community by passing out hand-warmers to security guards around campus. They keep us safe even in the coldest Chicago winters, and we are deeply grateful to them.

In December, our active house will be anonymously exchanging Christmas gifts with our alums to wish them a very Merry Christmas. We hope our gifts will bring aKDPhi love to our alums wherever they're in the world~

Our Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) hosted a study break and a show-out on November 1st and November 11th, respectively. During both events, we had a great time interacting with other multicultural greek organizations on campus. We are so proud of being part of such a diverse group of wonderful people. Shoutout to our own Lucy "Électrique" Tang for co-hosting the events!

On November 9th, we had a mixer with the brothers of Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE). We had a lot of fun interacting with them and look forward to working more with them in the future!

While the fall quarter is almost behind us, a new year with UChicago aKDPhi has not yet begun. We wish all our sisters a great holiday season, and we'll see you next year!
