Dear Coyotes,
As always, we are here for all our students and families as we enter the holiday season and approach the one year anniversary of the Marshall Fire. We recognize that all our Monarch families and the entire Louisville and Superior community are at different stages and places, however, we are a community and are here to support each other. Please reach out if anything is needed or any resources are wanted.
Anniversaries of traumatic events, especially combined with holiday seasons, can hold a lot of emotional stress including but certainly not limited to sadness and anxiety. Although there is no one right way to heal, here are some helpful ideas:
Recognize and acknowledge feelings you may experience. Understand that your feelings are part of the recovery process. Give yourself permission to be at different stages in the recovery process.
Find healthy ways to cope with your distress. Share memories and feelings with someone you trust or just spend time with friends and family. Activities that allow your mind to focus on something other than these memories are a good coping strategy for some people. Contemplative activities like reading, thinking, or just taking a walk are also a good approach.
- Use your support system. Reach out to family, friends, and supports at school and work.
- Boulder County has created a Commemoration Website for those impacted by the Marshall Fire.
MROC Marshall Fire Recovery Center-The MROC Marshall Fire Recovery Center is a centralized location dedicated to expediting the access and delivery of disaster related support, services and resources to fire survivors in Superior, Louisville and Unincorporated Boulder County as they navigate the complexity of their recovery.
Our Monarch Counseling Team is here and available to support our families and students, in addition to our Wellness Center which is open each school day.
Each family impacted by the Marshall Fire (regardless of whether or not they qualify for McKinney-Vento benefits or free and reduced lunch) is able to access Impact on Education funding to provide:
free school meals
transportation expenses to/from school
free 1:1 virtual tutoring w BVSD educators
after school care
Families can request assistance via this google form.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Caleb Michaels for not only winning the 5A state championship but for being named the BOCO Preps Athlete of the year and CHSAA player of the year for boys golf.
Caleb Michaels is the most accomplished player in the history of the men’s golf program at Monarch high school, no one has found as much success as he has on the course. Over his four years, he has been a contributing member of the Varsity team, playing in 60 + tournaments. His dedication to his craft is seen in his continual improvement as his scoring average has decreased every year (78.5, 77, 75.5, 72.5). He is the embodiment of a student-athlete as he has also been a recipient of the Academic All-State award all four years of his high school career. He put it all together in his Senior season battling through adversity and self-doubt to finish as the overall State Champion at the 5A level. Congratulations to Caleb and best of luck as he continues his golf career at the collegiate level next year!
