David Worships God
How do you worship God?
After David became king, he brought the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem. David wanted to build a permanent place for the ark—a temple of wood to replace the tabernacle tent. But God didn’t want David to build the temple—instead, David’s son Solomon would build it. God reminded David of His promise to be with David’s line forever. And one day, the greater Son, the Christ, would rule for all time. David responded with a prayer of joy. Though he wouldn’t get to build the temple for the Lord, David thanked God for His covenant, His faithfulness, and His love toward him and His people. King David likely wrote Psalm 24 for the return of the ark of the covenant to the tabernacle (see 2 Samuel 6). Psalm 24 talks about coming to the hill of the Lord to worship. The psalmist invites the gates and doors of the city to honor the approach of the King of glory, God Himself, as He comes through. Who is this King of glory? We know Him as the Lord of hosts, the Son of God.
Opening Prayer
