Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
December 1, 2023
Message from the Principal
As we enter this season of giving, there are plenty of opportunities for our school community to give back and support others in our community. Our Findley Kindness Campaign kicks off TODAY, Dec. 1. Additionally, BSD is partnering with Beaverton Toyota on a Coat Drive. You can read more about both of these efforts below.
At our General PTO Meeting in November, I shared details of our school improvement plan. Our School Improvement Plan is directly tied to the BSD Strategic Plan. Findley's goals are tied to the following two areas: Safe and Thriving and Foundations of Success. Please see the graphic below, detailing the specific measures and action items we will be implementing this year. In upcoming editions of the Dragon News we will feature more information for families regarding these two goal areas.
In this edition, I wanted to share an overview of the Habits of Mind, which are the focus of Goal Area 2. Embedded below is a video from 22-23, our adoption year, that describes the purpose for using Habits of Mind, what they are and what we might look for while observing student behavior and interactions. In future editions, we will look more closely at each Habit of Mind, and share rubrics that support our grading and goal setting processes.
Lastly, please join me in congratulating 5th Grader, Zoya Shah, as she has been elected Oregon's next Kid Governor. Zoya has developed a comprehensie platform that creates Mental Health Awareness and Support for kids. She will be inaugurated in January and begin working with her cabinet shortly thereafter. Congratulations, Zoya! We are SO proud of you. 👏
Have a wonderful weekend!
With Gratitude,
Sherry Marsh, Ed.D.
Principal
Congratulations Kid Governor, Zoya Shah!

Sing-A-Long and Winter Parties
December 15 will be a fun day here at Findley. The safety and security of our school community is paramount. Here are a few reminders we ask our parent community to remember:
Sing-A-Long
- Families are encouraged and welcome to attend our annual Sing-A-Long. The Sing-A-Long starts at 8:40 and generally lasts about 20 minutes.
- This is a standing room only event. Families and spectators will be along the upper railing and hallways ONLY.
- Younger siblings are permitted for the Sing-a-Long, but must remain with their adult upstairs.
- This is generally a very well attended event, parking and space is limited, please plan accordingly.
Winter Parties
- Only parents who have signed up to be volunteers will be permitted to attend Winter Parties.
- Volunteers must have a background check and sign-in at the office prior to going to the classrooms.
- Younger siblings are not permitted at Winter Parties.
We thank you in advance for cooperation!

Attention Kinder and 1st Grade Parents ~
The cafeteria needs your help....
Your child's ID number is also their lunch account number. They will use this for hot lunch, in the library to check out books and as 3rd - 5th graders will be part of their email address. (xxxxxx@BSD48.org). This number will be theirs throughout the years they spend in Beaverton School District. Parents should receive a paper copy of their child's ID number when they start school and it can also be found in ParentVue. Please practice this number with your child so they can memorize it and use it as needed throughout the school day. Thank You! 😊

Party Planners Needed!
Hello Findley Families,
Each grade level has only 3 class parties per year: Winter Party, Valentine's Day & the End of Year Celebration. In order for each classroom to have a party we need enough volunteers to coordinate, plan and gather supplies for each grade.
At least one lead or coordinator will be needed per grade in addition to support needed for the day of the class party. If you would like to represent your child's class for 1 or all 3 class parties, please reach out to the volunteer coordinator at findleypto.volunteer@gmail.com for more information. Or you can sign up now on Better Impact!

Findley Flyers
FINDLEY FLYERS
Findley Flyers is a walking/running club that encourages kids to exercise with their friends at recess or after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Greeting Findley Families,
Thank you so much to the amazing volunteers who have helped the Findley Flyers this year! We have had tremendous turn out from the students and your support is helping to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Volunteers needed - Thank you to those that stayed this Tuesday to help cover for 2nd & 3rd grade. Please pass along to all of your friends that we are always in need of more volunteers - particularly at this age group right now. It is very unfortunate but if we can't get enough people to cover the volunteer time slots, these grades won't get to run. We are not able to cover this safely with just 2 volunteers. Also, if someone wants to come out and help even though the volunteer slots are full, that is totally fine.
More Volunteers needed for Thursday afterschool
Please pass along to all of your friends that we are always in need of more volunteers especially when we are doing Findley Flyers in an undercover area if it's raining.
Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you again for all of your help!

Change of Go Home Plans?
If you are changing how your student is going home, please make sure you contact the office. You may email fndly-communications@beaverton.k12.or.us or phone 503.356.2100.
Notifying the office allows them to know exactly where your student should be and helps us keep them safe!
Thank you for your help!
