Hello Tigers!
A function of both age and the nature of this job, years that once seemed like an eternity are flying by with the blink of an eye; undoubtedly exacerbated by the reinvention of teaching and learning over the past nine months. As days moved to weeks, months and seasons, what was initially novel and surreal has evolved into something feeling (regrettably) routine. Our challenge has been, and continues to be maintaining a semblance of communion with each other in a realm that seemingly doesn't want to cooperate.
Perhaps there is no other season that illustrates the current challenge of disconnectedness from the humanity around us. With eyes on a string of holidays that culminate in a new year, I am reminded by the quote of Agnes Pharo: “It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”
Looking to the next three weeks, and regardless of what tradition your family celebrates, my prayer is that your blessings are rich, you find time and courage for the present, and discover a connectedness with humanity that gives you hope for the future.

REMINDER: Device Insurance
As you might expect, a large-scale distribution of devices will lead to inadvertent damage from time to time. As communicated earlier in the year, the Beaverton School District added a fee of $20 to students’ Online Payment accounts (maximum fee of $60 per family per school year) to enroll them in the Damage-Loss Protection Program. This fee is waived for families who qualify for the free or reduced-price meal benefits program and have completed the Permission to Share form.
Students need to pay the assigned fee prior to any damage or loss claims to be eligible for the Protection Program coverage.
Families may choose to decline coverage. However, doing so isn't recommended, because a family would then assume full responsibility for any costs due to damage, loss or theft. These costs could be as much as $300 per incident, regardless of how the damage occurs. Visit the Student Device Resources webpage for more information.
- To access the online payment system, you will need an active ParentVUE account. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, contact your school for an Activation Key code. Once the ParentVUE account is created, it may take up to 24 hours for the Online Payment System account to be activated. For more information on ParentVue, please visit the ParentVUE/StudentVUE page.
- To pay for device insurance, you may use a Visa, Discover, or Mastercard (debit or credit card), and make a secure online payment for your student with no transaction fees. You can access the online payment system at https://or-beaverton.intouchreceipting.com. in addition to device insurance, you may pay additional student fees for lost library books, or make donations to school-based programs and activities.
- If you did not select the permission to share option when applying for Free and Reduce Meals, you need to show the office staff your meals benefit letter indicating that you qualify for free or reduced meals. If you have payment questions, please see the school secretaries.

Marathon Kids
For the past three years, Raleigh Park has hosted the Marathon Kids (MK) after-school running club, serving 30 grade 3-5 students one hour a week. MK is a non-profit organization out of Houston, TX, with a mission to get kids moving, one lap at a time, at the pace they choose. Walk, run, jog those laps until they have earned the goals they have set for themselves. Now partnering with NIKE, the club FREE TO ALL Beaverton School District elementary students!
In order to have access, please look for an email from MarathonKids@donotreply to join the Raleigh Park's Marathon Kids Club. Be sure to click on the link in the email to get connected! As soon as you receive the email and login, kids can start moving and tracking miles! MK also has an app for families and teachers can be downloaded, is user friendly, and can be brought to school as a great physical distance activity for students.
Students may run/walk/jog and track their own miles at home with their families. Parents will then submit the miles completed on the Marathon Kids website. Miles will then be approved by the student’s PE teacher.
Inclement Weather
All classes and school schedules will continue on time in Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), even if district facilities are closed due to inclement weather. In other words, we will not have any "snow days" in CDL.
If district facilities are closed, any on-site classes/programs including Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) will be canceled. All daytime and evening activities/events also will be canceled. For more information, please visit the Inclement Weather Information webpage.
Tiger's Curbside Library & The Book Bus!
Tiger’s Curbside Library is still up and running two times per week:
- Tuesdays - 10:30a - 12:30p
- Thursdays - 10:30a - 12:30p
This is also a great time to pick up meals, 11:00a-12:00p
AHOY! The library BOOK BUS sets sail each Thursday, and will continue to do so until further notice. The book bus will dock at four different stops:
- 1:40 - 2:10 - 11606 SW Center Street @ LynMarie Apartments
- 2:15 - 2:45 - 3750 SW 108th @ Camellia Park
- 2:50 - 3:15 - Kennedy St. Park, just past 103rd
- 3:25 - 3:55 - SW White Pine Ln. @ SW Crestwood
Both the curbside library and book bus will have books for all readers. However, they may also request books in advance.
How do students request books?
- Browse the Raleigh Park Library collection and place a hold on books for your children. The only information you need is a 1) student ID number and 2) password. For more information on how to place holds, please view, Placing a Hold on a Book from Your Library.

How do students know when to pick up their books?
- When a book is available for a student, we will email parents/guardians to let you know when the book will be ready for curbside or book bus pick up. Please email Judy_Lowe@beaverton.k12.or.us with additional questions.

How do students return library books?
- Bring books back to Raleigh Park during the curbside or book bus hours and leave them in the labelled bin. Books will be in quarantine for 1 week, so there will be a delay in checking the books back in the library.
Child Care Subsidy
Washington County has secured a grant through the federal CARES Act to provide child care subsidies to parents/guardians. The Beaverton School District will be distributing approximately $2.4 million to families who are eligible and apply for these funds.
The application window is now open to apply online for money to help cover some or all of your out-of-pocket child care expenses: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/child-care-subsidy
If you don’t have internet access, you can pick up a paper application at your school or the District Office (16550 SW Merlo Drive, Beaverton).
