The Connection
Programs for Exceptional Children, Sept. 6, 2022
Settling in!
Hey there!
It's hard to believe we are already one month into our school year! In this edition of The Connection you will find information for encouraging & supporting AAC users, as well as registration information for our first AAC Family Support Group of the schoolyear! There is also a video on the South Carolina High School Credential program and what you need to know to register for the Transition Planning & the Individualized Education Plan parent training that will be held at Southside Middle School.
We hope you'll take some time to read through these resources, and don't forget that if you need a question answered or just aren't sure where to turn, you can contact our Parent Liaison, Erika Chapman, at 843-292-1008 or echapman@f1s.org. She would love to connect with you!

Behavior Basics
"Environment plays a huge role when it comes to human behavior.
🗄If your house feels cluttered, you fix the ENVIRONMENT by creating new organizational systems.
♻️If your clothes are busting out of your drawers, you fix the ENVIRONMENT by purging things that no longer fit.
🔑If you keep losing your keys, you fix the ENVIRONMENT by installing a key hook by the front door.
Behavior change happens when variables in the surrounding environment change.
If you are struggling with a challenging behavior, instead of focusing on the behavior itself, examine what environmental contingencies you can change to make it easier, better, faster, or more reinforcing to perform the desired behavior."
