GOODNOE GAZETTE
December 10, 2022
I hope your weekend is off to a great start! We had an exciting week at GES as the gym was transformed into a winter wonderland Holiday Gift Shop! I would like to thank the PTO and all of the many parent volunteers that worked to make this shopping experience possible for our students! All classes had an opportunity to visit the Holiday Shop to purchase gifts for loved ones or just enjoy the festive atmosphere. Again, thank you to all of our parent/family volunteers!
The district's CR CARES MLK Day of Service food collection is currently underway! The collection will run through January 11th. Specific information is included below. Donations can be brought in with students or dropped off to the office. Thank you in advance for your support of this district project!
Next Wednesday, 12/14 we are looking forward to the Holiday Winter Concert school performance that will showcase our talented GES musicians. The evening performance is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Newtown Middle School.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

Kisses for Kyle Foundation
The staff at GES are participating in the Kisses for Kyle Foundation’s Annual Holiday Gift Drive. Through this amazing program we were able to purchase gifts to brighten the holidays for many children in the Delaware Valley who are battling cancer.
Below is more information on how the Kisses for Kyle Foundation began. You can also check out their website for more information https://kissesforkyle.org
In 1998, Kyle Snyder was just three weeks shy of his second birthday when he was diagnosed with Leukemia. After a brave but brief eight-month fight, he lost his life to cancer.
In 2001, his mother Sharon founded The Kisses for Kyle Foundation to honor Kyle’s memory and to assist families in the Delaware Valley region who are battling childhood cancer.
One in every 285 children will develop cancer. While we cannot take away this diagnosis, we can help alleviate extra stresses by providing financial assistance and special experiences the entire family can cherish. It is our mission to make a positive impact on local families fighting the same fight the Snyders fought, and in Kyle’s beautiful memory.
5th and 6th Grade Reading Olympics
Sign-ups are now open for our Reading Olympic teams. Students read books and compete in a county-wide competition in the spring. Click here for more information and sign-ups.
Art Goes to School Grades 1-3
Art Goes to School will be back at GES to join us in the art room next week for grades first through third. AGTS is a local, volunteer-based and non-profit organization that brings art appreciation to students in the Delaware Valley. They will share a diverse array of fine artworks with our students and engage them in investigation, discovery and conversation about these artworks.
P.E. Class Fun!
This week in Physical Education class, students have been working on a variety of motor skill building activities such as hula hooping, jumping rope and working on ways to improve our balance using our balance beam. Students learned that these activities can improve coordination, cardiovascular health, strength and stability. We also played a fun game called Grab It as a warm up activity. Feel free to ask your child about the game and play it at home! (You can use a tennis ball or rolled up pair of socks) Have fun!!!
Reminder from the Physical Education Department
A friendly reminder to all of our Goodnoe Grizzly families! Please remember to be prepared to participate in Physical Education class with safe footwear (preferably sneakers that tie) and warm attire for outdoor activities. The weather may determine what footwear your students wear to school that day (snow, rain, etc) so you may need to pack athletic shoes that students can wear to safely participate in our movement-based class. Boots and UGGS are not appropriate or safe for P.E. class. Thank you in advance for ensuring your child is safely prepared for Physical Education class.
GES Winter Concert 12/14 at 7PM
The Goodnoe Elementary Winter Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at 7PM at Newtown Middle School. We will host a school performance for students on the same day at 9:30AM. The concert will consist of the Advanced Orchestra, Advanced Band, and Chorus performing holiday selections and winter favorites.
STEAM Special Update
The STEAM Lab has been busy and students are excited to come to the lab to learn and collaborate with their classmates! All students from first to sixth grade engaged in a STEAM Special orientation unit as they learned just what STEAM is and what they will do and learn in the STEAM Lab. Now the classes are moving on to new projects.
The classes will rotate through a variety of projects during the rest of the year. All students will explore digital fabrication with programs such as FabMaker Studio. Our first and second graders will learn about chemical engineering as they investigate what makes a good modeling dough. Third graders will learn about civil engineering as they explore bridge designs and build some of their own. Fourth, fifth, and sixth graders will be learning about aerospace engineering as they work together to design parachutes.
All classes will also build their computer programming skills through different activities, projects, and lessons. We hope families can join the fun during Computer Science Education Week, which takes place the week of December 5-11. Check out Hour of Code for Parents for information about how you can support your children in learning coding and other computer science concepts.
Reading Tidbits & Tips
So Many Genres, So Little Time!
Genre of the month, Realistic Fiction. A genre of stories that are made up but could very well happen in real life. These stories often take place in settings familiar to your child — like schools — which makes them more relatable.

We have had a very musical couple of weeks here at GES! DOGS/PETS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
When escorting students to and from school, please do not bring pets on school grounds or into the school building. Many of our children have pet allergies or are afraid of animals; therefore, the presence of animals in school or on school grounds is prohibited. Some classes at Goodnoe Elementary School do participate in the Nor’Wester Reading Dogs program, so on occasion you may see dogs visiting. These dogs are specially trained and licensed to work in the schools with students. No other animals are permitted on school property during school hours.
