CONCRETE HIGH SCHOOL
Welcome Back Lions!
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back to CHS for the exciting academic year of 2023-2024! We hope you had a restful and enjoyable summer break. As we gear up for another year of learning, growth, and community, we wanted to extend a warm welcome to both returning and new students and their families.
Our dedicated faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing for this upcoming year, with a focus on creating a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment for all students. We are committed to providing the highest quality education that empowers students to excel academically, socially, and emotionally.
Here are a few important pieces of information to kickstart the year:
**Important Dates:**
- First Day of School: Wednesday, 8/30/2023 (NOT a late start; 8:30 start time)
- Back-to-School Night: Thursday, 8/24/2023
- Picture Day, Friday 9/22/2023 -
- Homecoming Week: November 23 - 30, Game 29th, Dance 30th
- Parent-Teacher Conferences: November 17, 20, and 21
- Early Release Days: Thursday, 9/28, 10/19, 1/26, 3/7, 3/29, 4/25
**Safety Measures:**
The health and safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. We will continue to follow guidelines set by health authorities to ensure a safe learning environment. This includes frequent hand washing, monitoring your student for a cough or fever and keep your student home as needed.
**Safety Drills**
We will be having a safety drill at least once a month this year. Those may include fire, earthquake, shelter, hold, secure, evacuate, and lock down drills. It is important that students understand what to do in case of emergency. It is not standard protocol to notify parents ahead of time. We will be using Standards Response Protocol. Please click the link to read more about it.
**Curriculum Highlights:**
This year, we are excited to introduce new additions to our curriculum, including “WIN” (which stands for “What I Need”) is a time when teachers will be personalizing instruction to further meet the unique needs of each learner in every classroom. It is a period of reinforcement, support, and/or enrichment. What I Need or WIN time is a flexible period of time incorporated into the daily school schedule where extra help or enrichment opportunities are available for students.
**Leader in Me**
We will continue teaching the 8 habits and Trust behaviors through our Leader in Me Program. We also hope to provide many leadership opportunities for students throughout the school year.
**Restorative Practices**
We will teach lessons to all students to help them learn how to resolve disagreements, take ownership of their behavior, and engage in acts of empathy and forgiveness.
**Advisory**
The primary objective of the Advisory class is to provide students with the a personal connection to the school, using the power of connection to a positive role model and social success in a safe and caring community. Some of the skills that students will develop include: academic strategies for success, ability to plan their high school pathway, identify academic and personal goals, learn Social Emotional Learning skills, develop their High School and Beyond Plan, work in groups, and create an increased sense of being part of a caring community, raised awareness of and responsible behavior around social issues, and leadership, respect, and responsibility.
A key component of Advisory is WIN Time (What I Need) that will provide a variety of areas of focus and support for students including the following:
- Targeted academic interventions and support for student growth in reading or math
- Receiving extra help from the teachers for courses
- Meetings with clubs and activities.
- Meeting time fo class, advisory, club or activities
- Participating in small or large-group meetings with school counselors or student support personnel
- Activities planned with teachers and classmates focused on physical and social-emotional well-being, connecting as a class, and teambuilding
Our overall goal is to provide support to each student to get a well-rounded education that challenges and engages students in meaningful ways.
**Extracurricular Activities:**
We strongly encourage students to explore our wide range of extracurricular activities, clubs, and sports teams. These opportunities not only foster a sense of belonging but also help students discover their passions and talents outside the classroom.
**Parent-Teacher Partnership:**
We believe that education is a collaborative effort between school and home. We invite parents to actively participate in their child's educational journey by attending school events, parent-teacher conferences, and staying engaged with their child's progress.
**Bus Passes**
Please remember to call the office by 1:00 pm if your child has a change in his/her regular destination. Dismissal time is a very busy time in the office and we do not want to miss your call. (360)853-4015.
