Moore Street School Lead Learner's Address:
Greetings To Each Of You!
Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back!!! We are so excited to see our students back after the break. We trust that each of you enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends over the Thanksgiving Break. Now it is time to close out the 1st semester strong. We have 15 school days left in this semester.
There will be several tests administered during the next three weeks. End of Course Test main administration (high school students), Reading and Math Inventory (all students), BEACON assessment (middle school students). Parents/Families please click the link provided to the local assessment guides for more information about these tests. As a Family Engagement Activity study packets will be sent home December 4-8. Prior to the break we had several activities going on at MSS. We conducted a service project with the Carl Vinson VA Hospital in honor of Veteran's Day. We distributed 50 care packages to the veterans. We also hosted our Annual Fall Into Success Program and Parent/Family Thanksgiving Luncheon. See photos below. A special thank-you to the staff and students who worked to be sure that each of these a events were a huge success.
Parents, we are seeing a rising trend in the number of absences and tardies. Please make every effort to get your child to school each day on time. We are meeting with students individually and outlining their attendance recovery plans. Please support our efforts to protect instructional time. Thank you parents for responding to our plea. Now let's continue to push forward. We must protect instructional time!!!
Our PBIS behavior focus for the 2nd 45 days is appropriate language. Parents, encourage your child to be cognizant of their surroundings. Be sure they know who their targeted and non targeted audiences are. One strategy we are using here at MSS is teaching replacement words. We encourage you to choose a strategy to use at home. Academically we are using instructional videos to extend student learning (click the link below to view the slide show about how to use videos to extend student learning) as well as individualized courses of study to meet the student where he/she is. We are using Progress Learning to measure mastery of standards covered. Students should be able to have rich conversations about their progress.
Our enrollment is increasing daily. With the addition of more students we are less tolerant with chronic behavior issues. In an effort to not suspend students out of school we are using short term evening school placements. If a student is assigned to evening school for 3 days the student will not be allowed to return to the regular day school setting until they have successfully completed the required days in evening school. An absence does not count as a successful completion of the day. Parents please remind your son/daughter about our dress code: hoods, tights (as stand alone pants) and slides are NOT permitted.
Parents please pay close attention to the guidance for students under the age of 16 attending sporting events. Flyer posted below.
Our Evening School Program (ESP) is up and running. ESP is great for remediation, enrichment, and attendance recovery. Evening School hours are Monday and Friday Asynchronous (virtual) and Tuesday-Thursday in person from 2:30-6:00. Our attendance recovery plans have been implemented and students are being required to attend our ESP in person session to make up days missed.
