Spirit week information, 5th-12th grade can participate all 4 days of spirit week. Monday is PJ day, students can wear appropriate Pj’s to school. No slippers, onesies, spaghetti straps, or holes are allowed. Tuesday is friend/group day, students must match a friend or come as a group member to participate in this spirit day. This does not mean they can just have a free dress, they must be matching someone. Many students match friends with just the same shirt and bottoms. Wednesday is dress up like a movie star, this can include looking like a celebrity. Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately! Thursday is Spirit Day, students can wear all the blue and gold for this day, they can also wear their mums and garters to school. NO HAIR COLOR! If you are choosing not to participate YOU MUST be in UNIFORM! All spirit days will be monitored by the Dress Code rules in the Student Handbook under the free dress days.
What is a mum/garter, Originally a Texas Tradition, it’s now expanded out to other states such as Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Alabama and as far as Florida, North Dakota and Virginia. Made of mostly ribbon, the homecoming mum is given to a girl at Homecoming to wear to school then to the Homecoming game and dance, if any. Males wear a mum as well referred to as a “garter”, the mum is attached to a garter worn on the arm. A Homecoming mum is centered around a silk flower, with streaming ribbons, your name, the name of your date and whatever other creative thing you like. Some like to put their grade on their ribbons, some like a teddy bear on their mum. It depends on what you like and the creativity of the maker. You can make your own mums and garters or you can have yours ordered from your local flower shop or the following Mum shops in our area. This is not mandatory but just a fun thing to have for memories. We will wear them on Thursday (9/21) at school.
