Spring Family Survey Results
MTSD regularly seeks engagement opportunities with all stakeholders to build strong relationships and trust across the school community. One of the methods used to engage stakeholders and gain input to inform decisions includes the use of surveys. To inform our continued planning and improvement as we approach the end of the 2022-23 school year, we asked all of our families to complete the Spring Family Pulse Survey. The purpose of this short survey was meant to gain input regarding our families’ experience with MTSD, perceptions regarding communication and safety, and our students’ educational experience thus far in the school year.
We are pleased to report that the overall results were very reflective of MTSD’s quality of education, excellence of our teachers and staff members, and sense of community. Thank you for everything that you do to make us Proud to be MTSD!!

Changes to the Student Work Permit Process
The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division has developed a new online work permit application tool, and students/parents no longer have to visit a Work Permit Officer to apply for a work permit.
The Division carefully considered the lessons of the past few years, when pandemic restrictions made it nearly impossible for some minors to obtain work permits and decided to pursue an online application that would be available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device.
The application is live now. A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the Department mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer. Please contact Linda Winters (lwinters@mtsd.k12.wi.us), Homestead's former Work Permit Officer, with any questions about this change.
Congratulations to our MTSD Employee Award Recipients! 🏆
2023 MTSD Outstanding Educator
MTSD is proud to announce the winners of our annual employee recognition awards! Earlier this month, Ms. Beula Sundararajan, Social Emotional Coach at Lake Shore, was honored as our 2023 Outstanding Educator, and Ms. Deb Apel, 4K Paraprofessional at Oriole Lane, received the 2023 Charleen Perry Support Staff Award!
Ms. Sundar wears many hats across the district, serving not only as Lake Shore's Social Emotional Coach, but also the AVID 7 elective teacher and Student Council staff advisor at Lake Shore, AND the Summer Academy Coordinator for the M-T Recreation Department.
"Beula goes out of the way to learn about those around her," said Lake Shore Principal Alli Rudich, "She is always calm, positive, humorous, and quickly ensures that any situation is safe for students and staff. To say that she goes the extra mile for students, staff and families in her building is a complete understatement. If you need it, she’s there. If you need a listening ear, she’s there. If you need a good laugh, she’s there. She is deeply respected in our community."
2023 Charleen Perry Award
Ms. Deb Apel has been serving the 4K program at MTSD for 7 years, having spent the last 4 years at Oriole Lane supporting her nominator, 4K teacher Ms. Beth Banner.
"Deb is extremely creative and thinks “outside the box," said Ms. Banner. "If I mention an idea for a new area for dramatic play, she goes above and beyond expectations to create an area that not only engages imaginative, inactive play, but also provides opportunities for writing, reading, science discovery, and more. Her creativity also extends to her development of artwork and projects that you can find around our room. She is constantly creating and organizing systems so that our classroom can run as smoothly as possible. Deb puts students first. She gets to know each and every student, as well as their families, starting on day one. "
Congratulations to these two wonderful and deeply deserving educators!
