Parent Newsletter
October 2023
Dear Dunham Families,
We are coming up on the end of the 1st quarter. Report cards will be able to be viewed on Parent Link after fall break. Make sure to take the time to review your child's report card. You are our biggest ally in ensuring that your child grows and improves at school.
Grading is quite different than when we were in school. Gone are the days of A, B, C, D, and F grades. In elementary school we use what is called standards-based report cards. This means that instead of one grade for each subject area, each individual standard is graded. This allows students, teachers, and parents to know where a child's strengths are and where they might have holes in their learning.
If you have questions about your child's report card or progress in school, contact your child's teacher.

Important Information
- Dunham will have our Annual Halloween Parade at 8:00 am on October 31. Students must be in their classrooms at the normal time so attendance can be taken and we can start on time. Parents are welcome to line the sidewalk in front of the building to watch our parade.
- Costumes for the Halloween Parade must adhere to the following guidelines. Clothing must be appropriate for school. No fake weapons, makeup, or masks. Students must bring a change of clothes to wear after the parade.

- Handicapped spots are reserved for those with the proper license plates and/or hang tags. If you do not have a handcapped license plate or hang tag, please do not park in these spots. We do have families who need these spots due to their disabilities. Thank you for your help!
- Fall Break is from October 6-October 15. Our school will be closed during this time.
Reminders
- We still have slots open in our preschool. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please visit the link below. Scholarships and DES support are available to families that qualify. Preschoolers must be at least 3 years old and fully potty trained to attend. Full and half day options are available. 2023-2024 Community Education Preschool Interest Form and Contract
- School begins at 7:40 am. Students who are not in their classrooms by 7:50 am will be marked tardy. We dismiss at 1:55 pm Monday through Friday and at 12:55 on Wednesdays. Please make sure your child is picked up on time. Remember that every minute counts towards your child's education. Help make sure they are at school every day and are on time.
PTO
Thank you to everyone who supported the Scholastic Book Fair! We raised over $1000 in Scholastic Dollars for our school - way to go Panthers! During the fair we used our Scholastic Dollars to purchase books for multiple classrooms and expand the book selection for our library. Be on the look out for some new titles!
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers who helped with set-up, clean-up, and running the fair daily. Would couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you!!
The t-shirt order has arrived! We will be labeling them and handing them out next week. We ordered a few extra shirts in various sizes, so let us know if you would like one!
E-mail Dunham's PTO for more information or to find out if your size is available!
Peter Piper Pizza night is 10/27. It’s a costume party!

Wish List
We need your help! We are looking for the following items to be donated to the school. Any little way you could assist would be greatly appreciated. Yard sales are great places to find stuff to donate. My mom once convinced a lady at a yard sale to donate a whole box of items for us to use at Dunham.
Small prizes to be used for our weekly PBIS drawing for students who earn Panther Paws. We will accept anything! Past donations have included party favors, markers, stickers, coupons for free items at local businesses, and dollar store items.
New and gently used books for our Sharing Library in the office. This year two names will be called every month at our assembly. These students will get to pick a book of their very own to keep.
