Birthday Treats and Special Occasions
Birthdays are a celebration! The day God blessed this world with each of our students. Your child is welcome to bring a birthday treat to share with their class on their birthday. When your child brings treats for their birthday or for any special occasion please keep in mind some dietary needs we have in the building. We have nut, dairy, beef, and red dye allergies in our school. Please read your labels when sending birthday treats to school. Upon some research I found some of these items to be safe across the board: Doritos, Sun Chips, Black Forest Gummies, Fritos, Fruit, Wheat Thins (original), Goldfish, GoGo squeez, Roarin' Waters. All students want to celebrate their birthday and all students want to feel included in the celebration. Please check labels and talk to your child's teacher if you have a question about something you want to send for a birthday treat or if you are asked to bring a treat for a special occasion.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Oct. 24 and Oct. 26 we will have our fall parent/teacher conferences. This year they have changed just a bit. They will run both days from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Parents are asked to sign up for a fifteen minute time slot with their homeroom teacher. Information on P/T Conferences went home in Friday Folders last week. If you need assistance signing up, please call the school office: 228-1225.
This year, the PTO will be hosting a Food Truck at conferences. Families can come to conferences and order supper to take home. PTO is collecting cash donations to pay for teacher meals for both nights at the food truck. More information will be sent out from the PTO.
Halloween
All of our classrooms will observe Halloween. Classroom teachers will send home information regarding their plans for Halloween. This will be at the end of the day on October 31st for all classrooms.
Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day falls on a Saturday this year. We are asking for students to volunteer for each mass that weekend to "Thank a Veteran". You may sign your student up to help by clicking on the link below.
School hours, Drop off, & Pick up
The earlier start for our school has had a few challenges but overall it has proved to be the better decision for students and for staff. Students are expected to be in their seats at 7:55 a.m. It is extremely important not just for your child but for the class that your child is on time for school. When they come after 7:55 a.m. they have to stop in the office to be counted present and order their lunch. Students that are routinely tardy can cause an interruption to classroom learning and miss out on morning prayer and intentions that help cultivate the community of IC. Supervision outside begins at 7:40 a.m. and the first bell rings at 7:45 a.m.
Morning drop off is in the circle drive. Parents are expected to pull forward in the circle drive and drop your children off to go inside. If you need to come into the building, please park along the street to walk in and keep the circle drive open for the flow of traffic.
Pick up at the end of the day is also through the circle drive. The buses use North Grand and this needs to stay open for them. The line moves fairly quickly and we use the route for pick up for the safety of our students.
Archbishop Zinkula
On Wednesday, October 18, The Most Rev. Thomas Zinkula will be installed as our new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The mass that day will be a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the church as Father Tom, along with all priests in the Archdiocese, will be in attendance for the installation. Our students will watch part of the installation in their classrooms. They will talk in Religion class, with Mrs. Hoppel, about the installation and the papal proclamation that they will see as part of the livestream at 2:00 p.m. We encourage you to talk about this as a family and hear your children talk about what they are learning in religion.
You can watch live at: https://dbqarch.org/live-broadcasts
Friday Folders
Just a reminder that each Friday, Friday Folders are sent home with your children or on occasion, just with your oldest child. These folders contain information and communication from the office. Please be sure to read through the information in these folders and have your child return them to your teacher.
