We Love Our Volunteers!
It's National Volunteer Month, and we want to send out a big THANK YOU to all of our wonderful volunteers. We appreciate the time you give to strengthen the home and school partnership.
Do you want to volunteer? There are many ways to volunteer - you can go into the school during school hours, bring home tasks to complete for teachers, join the PTA/O or Boosters, help with landscaping, lead clubs, chaperone field trips, and so much more!
How can you volunteer? Start by contacting your school to learn about volunteer opportunities. Then head over to https://www.aacps.org/volunteer to get started on your background check and following the steps needed to become a volunteer.
Do you volunteer outside of school hours? You can log your hours that you volunteer outside of school through our Volunteer Portal. Ask your school's front office staff to create a user for you in Raptor and you can login from any computer to log your hours! Find more information at https://www.aacps.org/volunteer.
Why is it important to log your volunteer hours? Did you know the hours you volunteer don't just benefit you, your school, and your student? These hours are compiled at the county level and used to indicate in-kind support when the county applies for state, federal, and private grants.

Make Math Relevant and Engaging in Everyday Life
Why is it helpful to recognize Math use in everyday life?
Kids often think math is not useful. Showing how we use math every day helps them see the benefit.
They form connections between what they are learning in the classroom and the “real world.”
They are more likely to be engaged in the classroom when they understand how math is relevant.
It builds their overall math skills and problem solving by practicing outside of school.
How can you incorporate Math into daily life?
Take a walk outside and look for all the different shapes that appear in nature.
Talk about measuring and fractions as you make dinner together.
Look at prices, make change, and add tax as you shop together.
Building a shed or creating something new? Find area, perimeter, etc. as you build together.
Build financial awareness by having your child pay bills with you.
Think out loud! Recognize when you are using math and talk it out. Whether it’s young children or teens, hearing the thinking process builds their skills and understanding.
