Husky E-News
February 4, 2024
From the Principal
Hillendale families,
I hope you're having a great weekend! See a few exciting updates below in our PTO section this week including the results of our Penny Drive collection and my impending sliming!..
Valentine's Day Reminders:
We are excited to celebrate Valentines Day at Hillendale! Students are welcome (but not required) to bring valentines to school as long as students have a valentine for each child in their class and as long as no edible treats are included. Individual teachers and grade levels may make more specific requests. We hope your huskies enjoy this tradition! For Valentine's Day parties upcoming (and for all parties throughout the school year) we ask that parents refrain from bringing siblings. Please reach out to our office if you have specific questions. We appreciate your understanding!
Thank you and have a great week!
Joshua Leight
Hillendale Elementary Principal

We are excited to continue this partnership with them. To find out more about SILO check out their website, https://oxfordsilo.com/.
Penny Drive Results
The Hillendale Huskies brought in an impressive $2,530.15 during the 9-day Penny Drive! That means……it is BOTH pie time AND slime time for Mr. Leight! The students will have the chance to see the action and be randomly selected to participate in the fun during a school assembly in February. Way to go, Huskies!
The three top donating classes were Mrs. Dougherty, Mrs. Collins, and Mrs. Scala’s Homeroom classes. The generosity of all of the Hillendale students was incredible!

Evacuation Drill
This past week our students and staff participated in an “Evacuate” drill (much like a “fire drill”) within the SRP framework. I am communicating with you all today and plan to after future monthly drills to help raise our collective awareness of our school emergency preparedness procedures at Hillendale.
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all- hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol.
The premise is simple - there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art'' and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the fol- lowing actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.
When “evacuate” is called, students are trained to:
Leave things behind
Follow instructions
When “evacuate” is called, adults and staff are trained to:
Bring attendance sheet and essentials only
Lead students to the designated evacuationlocation
Account for students and adults
Report injuries or problems
