SPEECH RESULTS
Irondale and Mounds View co-hosted their First Annual Medieval Melee Speech Tournament at Irondale High School and, like Excalibur, it was magnificently shiny and solid!
Irondale earned third place overall with many students going to the final round, including: Malaya Wesseh, Breana Hamann, Deborah Adewunmi, Sarah Yoo, Asmaa Hamimoune, Bella Renshaw, Marley Vigoren, Reesa Venterea (3 categories), Boyana Nikolova (2 categories), Nick Anderson, Keniel Ortiz, Abby McNeil, Ronorey Buyuccan, Samantha Bolin, Gwenie Marshall, and Karina Chattopanhyay.
Special thanks to Mr. Saefong and Ms. Vang for spending part of their day with us, and also THANKS to the custodial crew for helping us clean up during and after the event. Great work team!
MOCK TRIAL RESULTS
Irondale Mock Trial Defense Team competed against Visitation (red) on Tuesday. Competition team attorneys were Sabri Abdusalam (Team Captain) (Lead Attorney), Seven Kemptar (Attorney), Logan Ingbretson (Attorney). Witnesses portrayed by Hailey Englund, Toby Mauthe, and Jhumpa Ekka. The team’s timekeeper was Emel Delamo.
Congratulations to Outstanding Attorney Sabri Abdusalam and Outstanding Witness Hailey Englund! The team did a fabulous job and won a NOT GUILTY verdict!!!
ALPINE SKI RESULTS
The Irondale Alpine team finished their regular season on Tuesday. Anthony Petkov took 1st place again, going 4/4 winning all conference races he raced this season. Way to Go!
Next up for the Alpine team is Sections on Tuesday, February 5 at Wild Mountain. Go Knights!
SWIM AND DIVE RESULTS
The Boys Swim and Dive team hosted Park on Tuesday, January 23 and won 99-87. Finishing in 1st place for the Knights were Isaac Botten (200 free and 100 free), Henry Botten (200IM), and Lucas Megahan (50 free and 100 back). 1st place relay finishes – 200 free relay (I. Botten, G. Willmert, S. Reichert, H. Botten), and the 400 free relay (I. Botten, S. Reichert, E. Hartin, L. Megahan).
The Knights competed against East Ridge on Thursday, January 25. East Ridge won 95-83. Highlights: 200 free (1st place Lucas Megahan, 2nd place Isaac Botten), 200 IM (1st place – Henry Botten), 500 free – (1st place Lucas Megahan, 2nd place Isaac Botten), 100 breast (1st place Henry Botten, 2nd place David Iverson).
On Thursday, February 1, the Knight competed against Mounds View. Mounds View won 104-81. Highlights: 200 free (1st place Lucas Megahan, 2nd place Isaac Botten), 200IM (1st place Henry Botten), Diving (1st place David Iverson), 500 free (1st place Lucas Megahan), 200 free relay (1st place – H. Botten, G. Willmert, I. Botten, L. Megahan).
The Swim and Dive Knights host Centennial on Tuesday, February 6, and Stillwater on Thursday, February 8.
COMMUNITY SAFETY PARTNERS
Next week, we will have some of our community safety partners visiting Irondale on February 6th and 8the for a tour and brief training.

SOFTBALL FUNDRAISER - RED ROBIN
IHS Softball is holding a fundraiser at Red Robin (1090 Gramsie Rd) on Thursday, February 8, all day! Mention to your server that you're there for the fundraiser, and just like that, you'll be supporting the team! If you're ordering take out, it must be ordered through the Red Robin Website; simply go to the "Fundraisers (To Go)" menu selection and add it to your cart, and continue ordering as normal. We appreciate your support and we hope to see you at a game this spring!
MINNESOTA TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Irondale special education teacher Shawna Poncelet, who has been named a candidate for the 2024 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award. The program is the oldest and most prestigious teaching award in the state. An independent panel will review candidate portfolios and select a group of semifinalists in the coming weeks. The statewide Teacher of the Year will be named in May.
SENIORS - MVI HOCKEY SCHOLARSHIP
Mounds View Irondale Hockey Foundation (www.mvihf.org) is offering $1000 scholarships for graduating seniors for past and current participants of the Mounds View Irondale Youth Hockey Association (MVIYHA) program attending Irondale, Mounds View, or St. Anthony High Schools. This scholarship will support a student’s post-secondary education in the form of tuition payment. For consideration, please submit an essay explaining how you were impacted by playing youth hockey with the MVIYHA. Scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by board members of the foundation based on their submitted essay. Applications are due March 18, 2024 by 8 am to p.kianian@gmail.com.
