Parent Newsletter - October 14th, 2022
Dear Parents,
Thank you to all who joined us for conferences on Tuesday. Our desire is to partner with you to support your children to flourish. Parenting is hard work, and we are grateful that we get to join you on the journey.
We postponed our class photos on Thursday due to some construction on campus and the chilly weather. We plan to have class photos taken on Wednesday, October 26 in the church.
Our Marathon Fundraiser was a huge success! We are hopeful that our final turn-in date today will yield enough to put us at the $40,000 mark. Here is the link one last time if you'd like to donate:

We appreciate your support of our school.
Next week is a short week. After Monday and Tuesday school days, our entire faculty will join all of the teachers from Archdiocesan Catholic Schools at the convention center for a day of professional development sponsored by the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence (CSCOE). This will be a wonderful day of learning, comradery and prayer. We will start our day with Mass, and end it with keynote speaker Gerry Brooks of Youtube fame. We look forward to it!
International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima
On Monday, Oct 24 Saint Ambrose will host an International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima that has been traveling worldwide since 1947; the statue will be in place in the main sanctuary at 7 am. Following 8AM Mass there will be a 15-20 minute talk about the statue. The statue will be in the church until the end of the school day. You are welcome to come!
ACT OF ENTRUSTMENT TO MARY
Blessed Virgin Mary of Fatima, with renewed gratitude for your motherly presence we join in the voice of all generations that call you blessed. We celebrate in you the great works of God, who never tires of lowering himself in mercy over humanity, afflicted by evil and wounded by sin, to heal and to save it.
Accept with the benevolence of a Mother this act of entrustment that we make in faith today, before this your image, beloved to us. We are certain that each one of us is precious in your eyes and that nothing in our hearts has estranged you. May we allow your sweet gaze to reach us and the perpetual warmth of your smile.
Guard our life with your embrace; bless and strengthen every desire for good; give new life and nourishment to faith; sustain and enlighten hope; awaken and animate charity; guide us all on the path to holiness.
Teach us your own special love for the little and the poor, for the excluded and the suffering, for sinners and the wounded of heart. Gather all people under you protection and give us all to your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus. Amen.
* Act of Entrustment to Mary, Virgin of Fatima, by Pope Francis at Saint Peter's Square on October 13, 2013.
Have a great weekend!

Cold Weather Procedures
During the cold winter months, we ask that parents make a special effort to see that their children are dressed appropriately (i.e. hats, mittens, boots, etc.).
The children go outside for recess daily in the lower grades unless the air or wind chill temperature exceeds –10 degrees. During winter months, we sometimes receive requests to keep children inside during recess. Such requests are difficult to honor because classrooms are not under supervision during that time. Generally if a child is well enough to attend school they should be well enough to participate in recess.
We have found that a short period of outdoor activity is extremely important in order to refresh each child. The children then arrive back in their classrooms better prepared to resume their studies.

COVID-19 UPDATE
If you were exposed to COVID-19:
-Students/staff no longer need to quarantine. If symptoms develop, stay home and get tested.
- Exposure Recommendation: if you were exposed to COVID-19, the CDC recommends you wear a high-quality mask for 10 days and get tested on day 5.
If you test positive for COVID-19:
-Students/staff stay home for 5 days.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others in your home. You are likely most infectious during these first 5 days. Wear a high-quality mask when you must be around others at home and in public.
- If after 5 days you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and your symptoms are improving, or you never had symptoms, you may end isolation after day 5.
- Regardless of when you end isolation, avoid being around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 until at least day 11.
- You should wear a high-quality mask through day 10.

Believe and Read - Groves Literacy Partner
Some more "Groves Language" or literacy words you might hear from your child:
Homophones - Words that sounds the same but are spelled differently and have different meanings - Example: some and sum
Prefix - Word parts added to the beginning of a word - Example: pre-, re-, dis-
Suffix - Word part added to the end of the word that changes the meaning - Example: -ed, -ing
Here are two wonderful videos that our wonderful 1st-grade teacher, Ms. Hulit recorded. They demonstrate letter sounds and how to tap words.
