Principal's Message
Campo families,
What an exciting time of year for our students, especially our seniors. This past week we were able to celebrate all of our Golden Scholars, Copper Coyotes, and Senior Scholarships and Awards. It has been nice to come together and celebrate all of the successes our students have achieved in all areas. In addition, today our seniors celebrated their post secondary decisions and declared what their plans are, while also getting to win prizes and more. We are wrapping up the week with our Advanced Placement Kickoff for our students to have one more attempt to study before they begin their AP exams next week.
We would like to wish all of our AP students the best of luck on their exams next week.

Murset scholarship
In January of 2021, Jayson Murset, an 11th grade member of the Campo Verde High School family, was taken too soon as a result of a tragic car accident. Jayson was a student athlete who not only represented his family with pride and shared his athletic talents with his basketball team, but also overcame his daily challenges with Type I Diabetes. In his memory, an annual scholarship will be given to a student who has earned high grades, participated in extracurricular activities, or volunteered in the community. The recipient of the Jayson Murset Memorial Scholarship is Brandon Kuhl. Brandon is also a Type I Diabetic who despite his health challenges has proven to be hard-working, an exceptional student, and outstanding athlete. Congratulations Brandon!

Our counseling department has come up with our very own Virtual Calming Room. With so much of our learning going virtual this year, it was important we came up with a virtual strategy to help our students relax and regain their focus so they can be more successful in their classes-- no matter whether they took their classes online or in person.
It is our hope that students can add this platform to their toolbox as a way to regulate their emotions and to get them out of the “stuck” feeling they might find themselves in. There are different types of calming activities on this page for students to choose from. There is a way for students to monitor what activity works best for them. Different strategies work for different people. The important thing is that they are willing to find ways to lead a calmer, more focused and happier life. The virtual format should allow students to use this whether they are experiencing anxiety, depression, scattered thoughts, etc. in their different surroundings- not just in class. They can try using it at home, during a study break, at lunch, before a unit test, to help them fall asleep, before the big game, etc.- pretty much anywhere they might get anxious or nervous. They can access it on their phone as well as their Chromebook.
This is just one tool they can use- it is not to replace therapy. If what they are feeling is chronic or physically debilitating, please seek professional help from a medical or mental health professional. If anyone is feeling like hurting themself, they should get help immediately. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255.

toybox
Toybox kids were treated to a puppet show, Anansi the Spider on April 28.
The intermediate/advanced drama students enjoyed creating the puppets (as well as the stage), but best of all was having Toybox kids come to the drama room for the performance.
The TOYBOX kids picked up trash on Earth Day!
Shawn Abele also came in & did a technology lesson with the preschool students.
I also included a few photos of my Intro to TOYBOX students doing lessons with the TOYBOX kids.

National Honor Society
*****
New Member Induction Ceremony
Campo Verde welcomed 44 new members to the nation’s oldest, largest and most prestigious student recognition program in the country. The National Honor Society has been a valuable part of our community and is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Being a member of the National Honor Society shows that they are among the best students in their class, not just in terms of academics but also in terms of leadership, service, and character. It shows a commitment to community service projects and provides students the opportunity to network with like-minded peers.
The ceremony, held in the auditorium, was attended by administration, parents, new and existing NHS members. Campo Verde’s NHS officers spoke on the 4 pillars of NHS, scholarship, leadership, service and character. Ms. Eaton, voted by the membership to speak, offered insightful advice to the new members. Ms. Monreal was presented with an honorary NHS membership. The evening ended with the announcement and presentation of certificates as well as the traditional lighting ceremony with all new inductees participating.

bands
We hosted the winter season grand finale at CVHS on 4/10/21 with 31 schools performing that day! The students, parents, and staff put on a wonderful display of arts and it was inspiring to see the community come together! What an incredible finish to our winter season! We are so proud of CVIPE, CVWG, and our feeder SVJH guard for their hard work this season!
The Band Program hosted an event called “Jazz a la Mode” on 4/23/21 and everyone had a blast! Boosters did an amazing job setting up and transforming the cafeteria into a socially distanced jazz club. There was VIP couch seating, desserts, sparkling cider, candlelights, and uplighting on the band. A few ASU jazz students played a combo set and
Adam Roberts was our guest soloist for the evening.
Can’t wait to do it next year! Thank you to all of the amazing boosters who helped out. Thank you to our school and district admin and board who came out!

SECURING VALUABLES IN THE BOYS / GIRLS PE LOCKER ROOM: In order to keep our locker rooms as sanitized as possible this year, we are asking all of our students to take their PE clothes home daily and wash them and bring them back the next day. However, students have access to large locker areas so that they can secure all valuables and lock the locker. We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE all of our students to NOT leave their valuables unlocked during class. Questions, please feel free to contact Coach Cornell or your student's PE teacher.
LUNCHTIME INTRAMURALS:
Join us for OPEN GYM intramurals in the gym (or outside) during both lunches. Come be active, have fun and enjoy being healthy!

job training
The Town of Gilbert has partnered with the Maricopa Community College District to provide job training scholarships for Gilbert residents (students, parents, community members) who have been impacted by COVID-19 in any manner (reduced hours, limited job opportunities, loss of wages, illness, etc.).
The training scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis and are not based on income. Plans are to offer #GilbertTogether resident career training scholarships through December 2021, or until funds are exhausted.
The programs of study offered provide entry-level and upskilling opportunities for approximately eligible participants to prepare for careers in business, healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, and trades. The career areas offered are in high demand, with the potential to earn more than the median Maricopa County wage.
Please encourage interested individuals to attend a virtual information session on May 6th from 6:00PM – 7:00PM. See attached flyer.
Additional information can also be found at https://www.mesacc.edu/workforce-development/gilberttogether.

Library Updates
*********************************
With various tests going on that students weather this time of year, we made sure to have a motivational display to help them get through testing. We hope they get something from the display, whether it be a test taking tip or a laugh, to ease any tension they may feel regarding a test.
We also have a display with novels in verse. A novel in verse is a story that is told through poems rather than the more traditional form of paragraphs. Many students are drawn to this style because they feel like they can read the book quickly. There are typically less words per page, and many people find that to be less overwhelming when starting a book. With each poem having it’s own topic and purpose while also making up an overall bigger story, students use their synthesis skills at a higher level than a traditional novel. Our display shows the covers of various novels in verse and gives a summary of each book to help students pick one to read.
