Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy
21-22 Welcome Back Newsletter
Dear Columbia Crest Rainiers,
I hope that you and your loved ones are in good health and finding some time to enjoy the summer sunshine.
I am excited to start the new school year and our staff is enthusiastically planning to welcome all of our students back to school in a few weeks. Summer is a wonderful time to reconnect with friends and family. I traveled to Maryland to visit my nieces and sister. We spent time exploring the town of National Harbor and enjoyed a beach day at North Beach.
I wanted to provide details regarding the 2021-2022 school year. While this year will look more normal, there are still some changes due to the Pandemic that shake up our traditional “back-to-school” routines.
As always, it is an honor to be the Principal of Columbia Crest A-STEM Academy and we will do whatever it takes to ensure our student’s health and safety during this upcoming school year.
Stay safe, Rainiers,
Principal Shew

Meet our New Teachers
Miss Franklin: Preschool & Special Education
Mrs. Danielson: 6th-8th Mathematics & Band
Hello Columbia Crest Academy Parents! I am so excited to join the staff at CCA as the new band director and a math teacher. It will be amazing to have music playing in the building again and students being able to learn a lifelong craft of playing an instrument. Music plays such an important role in the development of a child, and has been proven to help students with academics, self esteem, commitment and a sense of discipline.
I started teaching in the district in 1999. Now that I am a part of the CCA staff, that officially means I have taught in every building in the district! In 2014, my husband Erik (P.E. teacher at EMS) and I decided that I would stay home with our two boys that we adopted from China. While I am so grateful for the opportunity to have bonded with them, it also made me realize that I missed teaching kids. Jeremiah and Nathanael are school age now which provided me the opportunity to get back into the classroom. I’ve heard wonderful things about CCA and am thankful to be on the team.
In my free time, I love to go camping with my family, hiking, cooking, going to the symphony, watching my boys' soccer games and fireside chats with friends.
I look forward to meeting everyone and having a great year!
