Heath Brook School...
Information and news from and to the school community
April 3
There lots of happenings at the Heath Brook this month! This email contains much information, so take some time to scroll through all of it.
New Reading Resource Pilot underway for grades K - 6
This year, select teachers in Grades K-6 have been piloting two language comprehension literacy resources - EL Education and Wit & Wisdom. Both of these curriculum resources engage our learners in content-based lessons and deep studies of high-interest, compelling topics that build literacy skills as they acquire knowledge. These resources have been thoroughly researched, align with the science of reading and are highly rated through EdReports and DESE Curate. TPS will adopt one of these curriculum resources for full implementation in the 2023-2024 school year. We are excited to offer the community an opportunity to view EL and Wit & Wisdom curriculum materials here in the Administration Office at the Center Elementary School from March 27th - April 7th, 9:00am - 3:00pm. Please enter CES through the Central Administration Office, which is located at the back of the building.

Heath Brook Library
As we work through new procedures in the library, we have found out that we have over fifty books not returned from this school year alone. I am sure families can understand how sad this is for us. We have updated our library procedures and will begin sending letters out as early as next week. These procedures will make it into our 2324 handbook as well, but we want all families to be aware of what they are going forward. We ask that you please help your child keep their books in a safe place so we do not need to send out these letters. Library procedures will be presented in the updated handbook for SY2324
- Week 1 - verbally remind students to bring their books back
- Week 2 - send a note home with the student (Letter 1 and Invoice for book)
- Week 3 - send an email to the parent (with invoice)
- Week 4 - mark the book as lost and student cannot check out books (send letter 2 and invoice)
- Week 5 - library tells the office of missing/damaged books. Office enters financial obligation into Community Pass.
Parent Input Solicited for School Year 2023-2024 Learning Groups
We are planning for the 2023-2024 school year. An important and multi-step task is the preparation of class assignments for students. This process requires the collection of a variety of information, which the current classroom teachers, specialist and others take into consideration as we develop our classes for August. Our goal is to create balanced, heterogeneous classes at all grade levels: by equalizing the number of students, boys, girls, academic levels, special needs, and social levels in each classroom.
We appreciate your efforts to support our placement decisions based upon the needs of each child while still guarding the many factors mentioned above. We are writing this general notice to explain our placement process, as well as to notify you that requests for specific teachers will not be granted. However, we believe that parents can provide us with valuable information regarding their child(ren)’s learning needs which may be useful to us during the placement process.
If you would like to share information regarding your child’s interests, learning style, or other specific information, please feel free to forward it to us via this survey by April 28th.
Parents of twins and those who have multiple family members in the same grade. Our default practice is to place related children in separate homerooms so that each may learn, play, grow and develop according to their own unique gifts, talents, and needs.
- If you feel strongly that you want your children to have the same homeroom teacher, let us know.
- If you have related family members that you want in separate classrooms, let us know (we don't always know who is related to whom).
To parents of children who will be entering Grade 2 - Both the Heath Brook and Dewing Grade 1 teachers will begin the process of learning group assignment. They will share their work plus any communication from home with Mr. Harding and Mr. Rogers at Center Elementary School who will then complete the class lists.
